elective edit

"It is arguably the simplest of most plastic surgeries, when it's elective." It would be nice to find a non-regionally specific term for "elective" (voluntary? requested? not clinically necessary? — I'm not 100% sure what "elective" means), but my real problem is that I don't understand this sentence. When isn't it "elective"? And when it isn't, does it become less simple? --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 08:36, 31 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

I didn't understand that sentence either. --Apoc2400 10:00, 31 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

I've moved it here:

"It is arguably the simplest of most plastic surgeries, when it's elective."

The qualifier "arguably" is also vague. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 08:45, 1 September 2005 (UTC)Reply

The polar opposite of "elective surgery" is "emergency surgery." In this case, emergency surgery usually involves major trauma, such as from a car wreck. A planned surgery is almost always simpler and safer than the case that Father Physics sent to the emergency department . WhatamIdoing (talk) 16:37, 13 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Reasons for scrotoplasty edit

Only sex-change applications and treatment of one specific disease are discussed. Scrotoplasty is also used in infant males to correct birth defects that would cause problems later in life. Our son had a condition where there was a possibility of connected tissues causing binding that could affect testicle growth or proper erectile capability.

Our group has expanded on the applications of scrotoplasty. Other uses/different types of scrotoplasty were added in addition to gender-affirming purposes. Pnguyen12 (talk) 20:23, 1 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Group 20 Peer Review edit

Kevin: Do the group’s edits substantially improve the article as described in the Wikipedia peer review “Guiding framework”?

The group's edit does improve the article. From reviewing the article history I can tell that the group put in a great deal of effort on elaborating the summary, adding reasons for getting a scrotoplasty, and enhancing the procedure section by adding what happens during pre-op, during op, and post-op. However the group should avoid using acronyms such as FMT without explaining that FMT is female to male transition. The group did a good job at linking advance topics to other existing wiki pages. The group did a good job at using lay language in parentheses to help the reader follow what is written. If possible attempt to add photos to help visualize the procedure ie before/after.

Has the group achieved its overall goals for improvement?

The group did achieve its overall goals for improvement as listed in their proposed edits.

Does the draft submission reflect a neutral point of view?

The draft submission does reflect a neutral point of view. The authors only provided facts about scrotoplasty and did not include information that would steer the readers towards being positive or negative about scrotoplasty.

The term acronym FMT has been changed to "female-to-male transition". I'm trying to find appropriate images to incorporate into the articles, but that seems to be a challenge. Pnguyen12 (talk) 20:21, 1 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
We are working on finding images to describe the surgery procedure. However, the images are not under " creative common" category. So we are requesting to re-use them from the scientific articles' authors. Kieu-My Huynh (talk) 20:55, 1 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
Christine:

Do the group’s edits substantially improve the article as described in the Wikipedia peer review “Guiding framework”?

Yes, compared to what the article had before. Group 19 did a great job elaborating more on this topic while incorporating more subheadings and quality sources.

Has the group achieved its overall goals for improvement?

Yes. I can see that their goals included expanding on: history of scrotoplasty, the reasons for scrotoplasty, Types of Scrotoplasty, Pre and Post-procedures, and Incision methods of scrotoplasty. This group has done a thorough job in elaborating more on these topics.

Are the claims included verifiable with cited secondary sources that are freely available?

Yes. As I was reading through the article, the cited material were all easily accessible. Some sources were only freely available through an institutional login. Sources referenced in this article are all verifiable primary and secondary sources.

Pachoua:

1. Do the group’s edits substantially improve the article as described in the Wikipedia peer review “Guiding framework”?
Overall, this group’s edits substantially improved the article. Their introduction edits allowed for a structured and cohesive flow throughout the article. They also added relevant new content such as including specific procedures for the various reasons why someone would undergo scrotoplasty. The article is easy to read and understand. The sources they used are reliable sources.
2. Has the group achieved its overall goals for improvement?
Yes, the group achieved its overall goals for improvement. They have included relevant history, expanded reasons for undergoing scrotoplasty, described the different types of scrotoplasty, outlined pre and post procedures, as well as include incision methods of scrotoplasty.
3C. Are the edits formatted consistent with Wikipedia’s manual of style?
Yes, the tone is neutral and unbiased. No view is overrepresented or underrepresented. They added sections that expand more on certain relevant topics such as transitioning from female to male or male to female. In the article itself, there is no overpowering persuasion of any particular position.

Yes, the group has added a lot of different components to the article that substantially improves the information provided.

There could possibly be a bit more elaboration on gender identity and transgender health but it also currently has a neutral and informative tone, other than that it has covered a good amount of information.

Yes, they use "trans men and intersex or non-binary people who were assigned female at birth" to help encompass the population that might be affected by this procedure and are inclusive.
