Woh dude, I'm like Writing an article
editI am a clarinet player who has not picked up an horn, in the two years since either the last performance or scale test of the grade twelve two years ago. Would appreciate all the help I can get from anyone with current or past exsperience.
Hope to Add
edit- info on band geek culture
- more info about the music played by the various levels of school bands
- decriptions of typical band senarios (concerts of all sort, band camp, rehersals ect.)
- Can we also add something about elemetary school bands? I live in Virginia, and according to the Virginia Department of Education, we're allowed to start instrumental music instruction in fourth grade. Ivaroa 03:41, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
Band Humor
editHAHAHA!!! I just love band geek humor! Nobody here can tell an oboe from an elbow (whoops, more Band Humor), so it's nice to hear some!

- Man I've heard so many Chuck Norris Jokes this year. --ShortShadow 16:01, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
Edit Complete
editThis article has now been cleaned up to reflect a more general view of school band programs. It speaks more scholarly and refers to the "typical" band program.--Jfulkerson 22:01, 12 October 2005 (UTC)
Worldwide view
editWhat about information on school band programs outside of the U.S., especially Western Europe and Japan? MJSkia1 04:17, 24 April 2006 (UTC)
New edits
editI went through and edited a lot of this article. I think what I have represents a pretty general view in the US, but I have no idea how bands in Canada, Japan, England, etc. function. I don't really consider myself an expert, but I removed the expert tag becuase the article really looks pretty good now. Also, Wikipedia needs to get a spellchecker on their edit window, because I can't spell. --JCowe 02:17, 29 May 2006 (UTC)
Citing Sources
editThere really isn't a lot of resources on High School Bands, to cite. It's more based on personal experience. I think we should just get rid of that template.
--ShortShadow 20:35, 1 August 2006 (UTC)
- That'd be nice, wouldn't it? Unfortunately, we can't. Please see Wikipedia:Reliable sources and Wikipedia:Verifiability. Personal experience just isn't good enough. Powers 18:12, 4 August 2006 (UTC)
Edits
editI made some major edits. I'll probably finish up tomorrow. I hope this should count for atleast the Wikify tag.
Whitemage33 06:15, 7 August 2006 (UTC)
- Okay but any reason why you changed the chamber ens.? --ShortShadow 15:44, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
- It just seemed like it was more about strings and orchestra rather than band. Whitemage33 22:50, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
Revisions
editThere was just a lot of information that simply was not accurate for all parts of the country. There was also some misleading information presented as well. I think that for an article such as this, the more general it can be presented and still get the concept, the better. --Jfulkerson 03:06, 10 August 2006 (UTC)
- I was initially worried by the volume of edits, but I think that you were dead-on target with them. Excellent job. Powers 13:29, 10 August 2006 (UTC)
- It all looks great. Now that we've edited it, which warnings can we get rid of. I think atleast Wikify, maybe global view. Whitemage33 01:35, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
Instrumentation
editDo most school bands really have just as many baritones/euphoniums as trombones, as this article states? Most bands I've seen or played in have had far more trombones than euphoniums (usually 5 or 6 trombones and 1 or 2 baritones/euphoniums). --WillNL 14:56, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, I think you're right. --hello, i'm a member | talk to me! 03:20, 19 September 2006 (UTC)
second-level headings, please
editUse ==Text== instead of =Text= unless it's a heading for all those below. Thanks. --hello, i'm a member | talk to me! 23:07, 10 September 2006 (UTC)
- Cleaned up. --WillNL 00:35, 11 September 2006 (UTC)
sorry!
editI should've looked here before adding anything. Umm, I added to "movies" in the final heading. I hope it's okay and acceptable. You may delete/edit it if need be. Ivaroa 03:37, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
Movies
editI was surprised not to see either "Stomp" or "Blast" in the movies section- whenever any of my band directors had a sub, we'd either watch one of those or "Drumline".98.203.150.212 (talk) 01:04, 7 February 2013 (UTC)
