Merger from Shahidan
editHow about merging the district information from Shahidan here, and making the Shahidan article about the town, or maybe just a redirect. Or am I incorrect in equating the two names? If so, is Shahidan just the designation of a particular valley? --Bejnar (talk) 22:59, 24 November 2008 (UTC)
You are incorrect in equating the two names. There are many Shahidans in Afghanistan, the nearest probably being a few km SE of Sayghan District. That said, if Sayghan has really been made a new district, why has AIMS not updated their maps? 130.11.35.11 (talk) 15:42, 12 April 2011 (UTC)

I replaced the old location with the Sayghan District profile at Afghanistan Information Management Services (AIMS). None of the Bamyan official website <http://www.bamyan.info/> content pages were preserved at the Internet Archive. --Bejnar (talk) 04:50, 25 November 2008 (UTC)

Saraik?
editJust for the record, there do appear to be sources which give "Saraik" or "Sarayek" as alternative names for Sayghan ([1], which is probably scraped from the Geonames server, or [2]). I wish we had something more reliable though. – Uanfala (talk) 19:36, 9 January 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Uanfala. I have added some of the alternative names and spellings per sources I could find, which are thin on the ground - but one is sourced from US Intelligence, and Mindat.org is supposed to be a reliable source of information on locations of minerals, so added that too. - Aren't mindat.org and geoview.info both taking that specific content from the Geonames database? It's often an alright source, but it's far from being error-free. – Uanfala (talk) 10:42, 5 February 2023 (UTC)
- I can't say for certain, but Mindat does say that it vets its editors and only uses experts, and then there is that US Intelligence source... I thought it seemed better to have something rather than no mention at all. But feel free to revert, or perhaps add a footnote about paucity of reliable sources?
