Talk:Santa Rosa Island (Florida)

According to the article: The island was the first place where shots were fired to open the American Civil War, three months before the shelling of Fort Sumter, at the Battle of Santa Rosa Island. According to the linked article, the Battle of Santa Rosa Island was fought on October 9, 1861. This was long after the Battle of Fort Sumter which was fought on April 12 and 13 of 1861. And the First Battle of Bull Run which was fought on July 21, 1861. I didn't want to rewrite the article without giving the original author a chance to explain the discrepancy. If anybody's still interested, the encounter in question actually happened at Fort Barrancas, which is nearby but on the mainland. It's briefly discussed there. Merenta (talk) 21:13, 13 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
