But what is it???

edit

I read this article, and fail to understand, what is this "S1 MP3 Player"? Is a single company manufacturing these, are many companies simply packaging the same chip? Did many copies steal the exact desgin (from whom?))? Or maybe they all just look alike, but other than that are different inside? Where does the name "S1" come from? Who calls it that (this article is the first time I heard this name).

In short, the introductory paragraph of this article needs to be rewritten.

I own an mp3 player that looks exactly like the one in the picture, and I've always been curious where it came from. The packaging listed some company I never heard of, their website doesn't work and the "firmware update" they promised in the manual also didn't work. Oh, well, it was worth its cost ;-)

Unfortunately most of this information is not known due to the fact that this is pretty much shady business operations. Almost if not all of the S1 MP3 manufacturers are in China using the same 2 (?) chips. If you are familiar with mainland Chinese business practises then you will understand that there will be absolutely no official information regarding these products. The article's information is quite (although not entirely) accurate.

For the sceptics, the only way that this article to be can be proven is for someone to infiltrate a mainland Chinese electronics factory. Are there any takers? Remember, it's China not Europe nor the US or Canada. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.24.119.31 (talk) 17:23, 25 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

ACT and VOR

edit

The Specifications section links to ACT and VOR wikiwords, but there are no actual entries for these file formats, only other uses of the acronyms. Since I don't know which is the correct way to fix this I am just noting it here.

Deletion of Partition

edit

My Firmware version is 'B203G2BV1.2' . By mistake I have deleted the partition in FDISK utility. Now my player shows capacity only 101 MB rather than 256 MB. Please help me out this to get the 256 MB back as storage capacity.

Importance of GEMBIRD

edit

Why do we say Gembird is the OEM for these devices? Do we have any citations to suggest that this company originated the S1? There are other companies on the list of brands (see external links) which call themselves OEMs too. -CarelessHair 02:19, 9 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Gembird is NOT the OEM of this product

edit

To whom it may concern;

Please be aware that Gembird Electronics has nothing to do with so-called "Sumvision MP3 players" . Some companies have fraudulently put a reference to our website in their own MP3 player manuals as they do not have their own websites - this of course is totally illegal !

Gembird is actively looking for importers responsible for such fraud, and will be taking all available legal measures against them.

If you have any information about them or this practice, please contact us by postmaster@gmb.nl

Thank you

Chip hacked to appear as 4GB

edit

"Memory capacities of 64 MB to 4 GB. 4GB versions usually have a smaller Flash memory chip hacked to appear as 4GB." I'm sorry but i can't make any sense of this. The manual in my s1 states 32mb to 1gb. Perhaps they mean make 4gb memory appear as 1gb?

Somewhere should be mentioned that there are "S1/MP4" players as well, and some models have an sd slot instead of builtin flash memory.

About Hacking

edit

Regarding the confusion above, the article attempts to advise that some players, although sold as having a large storage capacity, the true capacity is substantially smaller: the difference is due to a deliberate hack to the player's firmware so that it mis-reports the amount of memory it has. Attempting to use the memory beyond the true capacity results in errors/player lockups.

Whom should I contact to sell MP3 logo I've designed?

Cleanup tag

edit

I merged in what seemed salvageable from Chinese MP4 Player. More work needed. (I just got one of these things for Merry Tuesday and rewrote large parts of AMV video format trying to get videos working ...) - David Gerard (talk) 20:23, 26 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Already discussed an un-merged. Next time, just clarify your sources first before merging. --Jw21/PenaltyKillah VANucks|19-12-4 02:55, 27 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Another feature: .lrc reading

edit

I don't know how to edit wikipedia, please someone add the fact these players read lyric in .lrc format too (they can be made in notepad like:
[01:03.24]bla bla...
[01:07.50]...bla bla
and must have same name as song without special characters) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 201.42.145.57 (talk) 05:34, 12 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Dubious

The LG brand listed under section Models might actually not be associated with LG Electronics. -Mardus (talk) 01:14, 27 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Turns out that LG UP3 is a legitimate model. -Mardus (talk) 01:30, 27 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
