Talk:S&T Daewoo K11

"(caliber of shell x length of propellant case)" edit

This is the case for most metric cartridges, including the 5.56x45mm referenced in the preceding line. This information shouldn't be in the introductory paragraph, it should either be excluded, in the side card, or in the body of the article where the K167/K168 are described. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.5.124.154 (talk) 06:51, 4 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

Purchase by UAE edit

The UAE has purchased 40 K11s for evaluation purposes for a price of $560,000 giving an indicative unit cost of US$14,000. See:

This information was added to the page but subsequently deleted another user. I am awaiting an explanation from that user of why this was done.Mztourist (talk) 03:28, 18 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

As I told you on my talk page, the text I removed did not cite a source so it was not verifiable. In fact, the text itself was incorrect because the estimated price per rifle according to those sources is $14000, not $30000 as the text claimed. Looking at the edit history, apparently the citation was removed and the numbers were changed in an earlier unconstructive edit by IP 221.155.155.114. Since the article was not on my watchlist at that time, I was unaware of his edits and the incorrect text remained intact until I removed it later for being unsourced. In any case, as an evaluation purchase it should not be listed in the users section. I have added it back in the article summary. ROG5728 (talk) 04:29, 18 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
Does anybody seriously think it costs $14000 to manufacture a rifle with an attached computer? The 560,000 for 14 units is irrational maths. Obviously you charge far more for a small order than a large one because of the possibility of reverse-engineering. -WikiSkeptic (talk) 07:27, 27 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Type?? edit

I don't think calling the weapon OICW is correct at all. OICW is the name of a discontinued American weapons program and is not exactly suitable as a weapon type. The K11, while inspired by the OICW program, is an independent development by the South Koreans. If anything I think the K11's type should be something like assault rifle-grenade launcher. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.157.45.222 (talk) 02:09, 9 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Agree that OICW is incorrect, but perhaps advanced combat rifle/system is more accurate Mztourist (talk) 03:24, 9 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Corrections I have come across your comments and need to inform you there are some corrections that have to be informed. Iam with the manufacturer and the details on the sales of the K11 to UAE gov. are not correct. The units are 13 units where the price has not been disclosed. However, the range is between USD30,000 to USD33,000. Reporters have been exagerating on the cost of USD14,000 which is the estimated cost on its manufacture few years back as announced by the government research agency because the price of sales was not disclosed.

I have corrected the description on the shells on how they explode, there is only 1 type of shell for the 20mm ones and they are controlled by a trigger before it is fired which commands on how they are to burst in the air.

I have added the information on the deployment of K11 with the Korean Military to Afghanistan this year

I am not an expert with Wiki so Iam sorry if I had made any improper corrections to the page. If you do wish to contact me directly for verification, please do not hesitate to do so. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.184.37.46 (talk) 14:02, 9 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Koreans call K11 as 복합소총. In English, 복합소총 means comeplex (or composite, or combinded) assault rifle. I believe complex assault rifle would be good type name than advanced assault rifle and grenade launcher. Kadrun (talk) 23:00, 25 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

I disagree, "complex" can mean complicated or difficult to use, combined assault rifle is better, but it doesn't make it clear that its a rifle and grenade launcher, the current description more accurately reflects what it is Mztourist (talk) 06:27, 26 December 2012 (UTC)Reply
Koreans themselves do not call this rifle as assault rifle + grenade launcher. There should be better type title for this. Let's figure out. 복합 in English would be complex, compound, composite, mixed, united, etc. Kadrun (talk) 06:59, 27 December 2012 (UTC)Reply
Kadrun as I have said before this is English Wikipedia, not Korean Wikipedia and so we adopt standard descriptions. None of the words you have suggested describe the type and nature of the weapon any better than advanced assault rifle and grenade launcher. Mztourist (talk) 15:56, 28 December 2012 (UTC)Reply
What if I tell you S&T Motiv themselves classify the K11 as dual-barrel air-burst weapon on their English online website. Anyway I'll check on online brochure. Kadrun (talk) 04:28, 30 December 2012 (UTC)Reply
http://www.sntmotiv.com/st/company_pr01.html here we go... K11 Dual-Barrel Air-Burst Weapon. Since OICW stands for Objective Individual Combat Weapon and XM29 has its own designation, I do see no problem classifying this weapon as DAW or DBABW.Kadrun (talk) 04:36, 30 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Second generation edit

Trying to find information and photos of the second generation I came across this article: https://www.armyrecognition.com/mspo_2017_news_official_online_show_daily_coverage/south_korean_defence_ministry_k-11_weapon_system_mspo_2017.html It neither includes any info beyond the most basic info nor specifies that the rifle shown is of the second generation, but the rifle in the picture looks slightly different from the usual photos (FCS, handguard). Also the poster in the background tells of an "update" of some kind. Please add a link to the source in the article if you deem it appropriate. Themediaman (talk) 21:30, 19 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
