I have heard that rugby shirts typically have rubber buttons. Why is that?
Probably to reduce scratches to other players during scrums etc. May also be easier to wash repeatably at high temperature. 145.253.108.22 11:42, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
The laws of the game (Law 4 & Regulation 12) specify that a player may not wear any piece of clothing with a density greater than 45kg/m^3. This would probably prohibit 'hard' buttons but not rubber ones. (A player must not wear any item of which any part is thicker than 0.5cm when uncompressed or is denser than 45 kilograms per cubic metre unless specified within this Regulation 12/Law 4.) 86.43.179.77 (talk) 18:25, 16 August 2013 (UTC)
