LOUD sales

There is no way that "LOUD" has sold more copies than "Good girl gone bad" so this stupid 8m figure is dumb, especially since everyone knows it sold 5m and the source (a magazine) isn't even reliable since they always inflate numbers, somebody should but the actual sales with a reliable source. --Duphin (talk) 13:08, 30 November 2011 (UTC)

If Loud had sold 1,700,000 in the UK, it cannot be 6× Platinum because 6× Platinum requires at least 1,800,000 copies (1× Platinum = 300,000 copies).

Hi, i wanted to suggest to short the table by decades like 2000s and singles then 2010s singles cuz rihanna release music every short time and its kind of annoying going to the top of the table to see the countrys, just saying it could be handy (also certification making each single longer doesnt help)

also maybe u could mention something about rihanna colaborating with calvin harris in his album http://www.nme.com/news/calvin-harris/65684 and rihanna recording a new album http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/music/news/a400450/rihanna-recording-stadium-anthems-for-new-album.html

Total WW sales

There is a refence that claim she sold 37M albums and 147M singles. Sorry but I think that is imposible, mostly since de last source we had before said in march 2012 that she sold 25M albums and 60M singles. It is impossible she sold 12M albums and 87M digital singles in only six month. As much as I love Rihanna the new sales are just impossible and wrong. We should find a better source for sales.--Albes29 (talk) 16:49, 10 September 2012 (UTC)

Maybe the previous source was older and outdated, meaning they used information from previous years? This source is a reliable source, and I don't see reason for not being used here. — Tomica (talk) 16:52, 10 September 2012 (UTC)
That source cannot be used. First off, its ridiculously inflated. Its almost laughable. Her certifications are around 75 million, so implying her sales to be near 200 is just plain crazy. Secondly, LiveNation is not a third-party source, its a website used to promote her new tour. We need independent sources.--CallMeNathanTalk2Me 17:06, 10 September 2012 (UTC)
  • Note - I'm copying this to her bio page as well. I fear edit-wars are brewing.--CallMeNathanTalk2Me 17:06, 10 September 2012 (UTC)
The source is actually not from Live Nation, but from The Sacramento Bee, so I don't see reason why we can't use it. And what is ridiculous around here? She has 6 studio albums, we all know that they sell averagely so 37 million is perfectly fine. She is the digital artist of the decade so the 146 number goes fine to me too. — Tomica (talk) 17:10, 10 September 2012 (UTC)
The original source is LiveNation, The Sacramento Bee took the info from them. Rihanna has sold around 48M digital singles in US, 100M more ww is just impossible. I think until we get a different source we should remove those numbers.--Albes29 (talk) 18:28, 10 September 2012 (UTC)
Tommy. I'm sorry, but do you realize nothing you are saying has any logic to it? She is the digital artist of the decade, so that seems about right. Well, The Beatles are the best-selling artists of all time, so 10 trillion records sounds about right to me! Come on, the US accounts for more than 50%+ of global sales, that number is impossible.--CallMeNathanTalk2Me 19:19, 10 September 2012 (UTC)
Is everyone missing the point? Rihanna is one of the biggest selling artists that much I agree. Her best market is the UK where's she's sold 20m digital units in the last 6 years (i believe - not sure if this is singles or albums). So the suggestion that she's sold 87m digital singles in six months is not only ludacris but there isn't enough music buyers in the world to make that possible. Not being funny but not even Adele could sell 12m albums and 87 million singles worldwide in six months. Its phyiscally impossible. — Lil_niquℇ 1 [talk] 19:27, 10 September 2012 (UTC)
That was covered in the first post... and no, technically her best market is the US.--CallMeNathanTalk2Me 19:30, 10 September 2012 (UTC)
I thought album-wise she sells more in the UK? I suppose the relative size of the market has to be factored in.. But yeah either way its not probable, likely or possible. — Lil_niquℇ 1 [talk] 19:42, 10 September 2012 (UTC)
Yes, per record sale/number of citizens, the UK is stronger, but the US always overshadows because of its population. And yes, agreed.--CallMeNathanTalk2Me 20:06, 10 September 2012 (UTC)
Based on population, Rihanna sells more albums in the UK and more singles in the US. — Tomica (talk) 20:15, 10 September 2012 (UTC)

Watch out for a means of providing a citation for this. There isn't one just yet so I haven't put this into the actual article, but it's worth noting that with her latest UK chart topper "Diamonds," adding up all the weeks on chart that all her hit singles have amassed, she now has a total of 773 as of W/E 13 Oct 2012, which is 1 more than the Shadows. This makes Rihanna the 3rd most charted artist in UK chart history, with only Elvis Presley and Cliff Richard left to overtake. Princess of China should not be in the "As lead artist" section as the lead artist is Coldplay. On YouTube, the official video is Coldplay feat. Cockiness single?

How can Cockiness be consider a single, when the only source is digital download, theres no source of radio release?? in the US a song to be a single needs radio release, which hasnt been sourced to Cockiness, because it hasnt been released as single.

Somebody needs to remove Cockiness or bring a source with radio release! thank U.

--91.154.99.169 (talk) 18:09, 18 September 2012 (UTC)

Nor in US, nor everywhere, the song doesn't need to be sent to radio to be a single. If it has a digital download date it is a single already. Thank you. — Tomica (talk) 18:11, 18 September 2012 (UTC)
I've told that before but hmm, I still don't get why Cockiness is a single just because it was released to iTunes. Songs are released all the time, specially if it is a remix. Just because it says "- Single" in the "album title" doesn't necessarily mean it is a single. Prior the release of albums, iTunes usually releases songs as part of a "countdown", like when Katy Perry released "E.T", "Circle the Drain" and "Not Like the Movies" to iTunes individually before the album was released, so you would say they are singles too ? (not talking, of course, about E.T. which was later released as a single). Decodet (talk) 20:19, 18 September 2012 (UTC)
Can you find those songs that you named in the comment above now on iTunes to buy them separately (no from Teenage Dream)? No, you can't ... cause they were promotional singles. If Rihanna removes "Cockiness" from iTunes it will become promo single, now is single. — Tomica (talk) 21:16, 18 September 2012 (UTC)
Yeah but by saying that you would say Only Girl, We Found Love and several other songs were promo singles too because we can't find them separately on iTunes. And why aren't this, this, this and this on the table as well? I don't see why Cockiness is any different. Decodet (talk) 21:31, 18 September 2012 (UTC)
Singles are always removed from the iTunes Store once the album is released. Cockiness is different because all those you listed, are remixes of a song that also released as a single. Cockiness was only released in the remix form. It's the same type of release as Birthday Cake, expect it was released to buy instead of sent to radio. Zac  21:36, 18 September 2012 (UTC)
I don't really see Birthday Cake the same way I see Cockiness... I see Cockiness more like Sleazy Remix by Kesha which is a non-single remix that was also not sent to radios and is not considered a single anywhere. I would like to see more people sharing their points of view and help me understand why this should be a single because I still don't see logic in this lol Decodet (talk) 21:53, 18 September 2012 (UTC)
The "Sleazy" remix should be labelled as a single. Zac  14:21, 19 September 2012 (UTC)

Cockiness should not be considered as a single for the reasons listed above. --HC 5555 (talk) 06:51, 16 October 2012 (UTC)

"Cockiness" is not an official single. Rihanna just had ASAP Rocky perform it with her at theMTV VMAs, and released the studio version of what was performed the following day. It was not sent to radio.--68.248.73.238 (talk) 19:57, 16 December 2012 (UTC)

Charity singles

Why do these have their own section? One is Rihanna as lead artist, the other as featured. Charity singles don't get their own section just because they're for charity. –anemoneprojectors– 16:19, 23 April 2013 (UTC)

Oh good, they got merged. Thanks to whoever did that. I would have done it but with all the different countries and charts and references it looked soooo complicated! –anemoneprojectors– 20:39, 18 June 2013 (UTC)

Single sales

I don't think it's a good idea having single sales added to the single table. It's not something which is done on the other artist discography pages and considering most of them are incredibly out of date or are only based on the thresholds of the certifications, they aren't much use. They can be used in the respective pages for each single, but I strongly disagree that they are included on the discography page - above all it looks messy.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Liamk97 (talkcontribs) 22:24, 10 September 2013 (UTC)

Orphaned references in Rihanna discography

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Rihanna discography's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Just Stand Up

Rihanna is credited in this song as part of the group "Artists Stand Up to Cancer". If she's part of the "main act", isn't it supposed to be listed as a single as main artist instead of featured artist? Decodet (talk) 23:21, 17 January 2014 (UTC)

Jump

Jump appears in both the singles and the other charted songs section. I'm not aware that it's been released as a single and it's not on the article so should it be removed from the singles section? 85.210.171.191 (talk) 17:12, 24 January 2014 (UTC)

Singles "Sales/Certifications"

I suggest removing the sales from the singles column for the following reasons:

  • Sales figures are not available for single for many markets; usually only US and UK are available (and that's if we're lucky)
  • Mixing sales and certifications is messy, confusing and adds a touch of original research, as many certifying bodies acknowledge shipments, not sales for certs.
  • Singles' sales figures are not updated as regularly as albums, and after a few years the media stop reporting on older singles.
  • Wikipedia-wide consensus tends toward the proposed WP:DISCOGSTYLE, and I haven't seen many discography pages like this.

Thoughts? Were there particular reasons why they were added in the first place? Adabow (talk) 10:58, 16 February 2014 (UTC)

I've never been a fan of adding singles sales on discographies, for the reasons you've pointed out above. I couldn't agree more. decodet. (talk) 19:06, 16 February 2014 (UTC)

Please add sales numbers for her remix albums. Good Girl Gone Bad: The Remixes can be estimated at around 150,000 copies worldwide and Rated R: Remixed at 80,000 copies worldwide. Anti worldwide sales

Tidal has recently announced that in first days of album's availability on Tidal, 470000 (470K) copies were purchased. Apart from 470000 copies purchased through the service, 1,000,000 people downloaded the album for free which was a "gift" from Rihanna and Samsung. I think it should be added to sales since Samsung spent 6,000,000 dollars on digital copies of Anti and people decided to download it -> it's equal to the album being bought — Preceding unsigned comment added by 37.248.255.251 (talk) 12:48, 8 February 2016 (UTC)
