Regarding section "Red flag laws in the United States" edit
User:IntoThinAir, you say in your edit summary that disassembling the automobile is verifiable in the citation, but this Wikipedia article has been around, with the same claims, since 2008. Considering the book cited is from 2018, it is entirely possible they are getting their information from this very Wikipedia page. We should consider this before wholeheartedly believing this is not a hoax. To be quite honest, I think it sounds utterly ridiculous - lawmakers may sometimes make uninformed decisions, but I really don't believe they'd be so uninformed as to believe disassembling a vehicle would be an operation possible within such a short timespan. This article needs more rigorous confirmation, preferably something that makes mention of it, in a serious manner, before this Wikipedia article existed. - @DesertPipeline: The book in question, though it was only published in 2018, was also published by Cambridge University Press, obviously a highly regarded publisher, so I think they probably know better than to allow citogenesis to seep into one of their books. In fact, the book cites an additional reference for this specific claim (on page 88), which is "Karelovitz, 1968, p. 122". I looked around and it turns out this is a typo: It should be Karolevitz 1968, p. 122. The source in question is this book, but it doesn't seem to mention this law from what I can tell from its searchable snippets. So though I assumed that a Cambridge-published book would definitely be a reliable source, maybe the author of it made an error in citing this claim. IntoThinAir (talk) 11:22, 27 June 2019 (UTC)
- I'd appreciate if someone who has the book could see exactly what it says on this matter. Until that point, I feel the section of the article should be placed here in the talk page and removed from the actual article so nobody is possibly being deceived. Do you feel that's fair?
