There was an earlier form of this article that did not suffer from copyright violations. I have recreated the article using that source and placed it at Red Rum/Temp. --User:rin 17:19, 26 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

Trivia

edit

Lee Mack was Red Rum's stableboy in the 80's - is that worth noting as trivia? --172.212.243.142 09:05, 23 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

This needs to put in: Red Rum was flat bred, he won (dead headed) in a 5f flat race at LIVERPOOL at 2 y.o. (where he would go back to to become a legend). At one time ridden by the great Lester Piggott, yet he went on to win National Hunt racing's longest race 3 times and 2nd twice!!! - Just mentioning, in that 2 y.o. race he dead headed with a filly called Curlicue [1] [2]. Both Red Rum and Curlicue were bred by Martyn McEnery (co. Kilkenny) and both went to the sales together to be sold to England, funny!! - Culnacréann 19:29, 12 October 2007 (UTC) [[Media:Insert non-formatted text here]] == Headline text == he was the bestReply

His death

edit
  • I heard on television once that he was found in his stable collapsed and too weak to stand; a vet was called and said that his heart was giving out, so the vet had to put him down. Has anyone got a reference to this? Anthony Appleyard (talk) 08:56, 10 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Lee Mack again

edit

Currently we have

"In his early career he was once ridden by Lester Piggott, and comedian Lee Mack, then a stable boy who had his first riding lesson on Red Rum."

Whose early career? The horse's? Piggott's? Lee Mack's? --Several Pending (talk) 20:06, 8 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

I have to wonder why is this listed under Early Life? It happened several years after Red Rum retired. On Desert Island Discs Mack specified that he rode Red Rum at the age of 16, which would have been in 1984 at the earliest, although given other details in his story it was more likely 1985. 67.180.80.11 (talk) 12:19, 9 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
