Title Change Needed edit

Request that the title of this page be changed. The letter "f" in the word "Fire" needs to be capitalized --218.103.248.68 (talk) 06:54, 2 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Wouldn't that only be true if authors and others who often referenced it habitually wrote it out as "Reconnaissance by Fire"? Like if the Maxim machine gun was often written of as the "Maxim Gun", presumably the Wikipedia article's title would follow similar capitalization - but usually it's written of as the "Maxim gun", and Wikipedia follows suit. Just a thought. --64.180.219.29 (talk) 03:23, 27 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

WW2 section seems to be just suppressing fire edit

The example listed for WW2 doesn't fit the description given of recon by fire in the opening paragraphs. How is this scenario not simply suppressing the enemy in order to get through? Surely if it were recon-by-fire they'd be firing for the purpose of locating the enemy in order to destroy them, possibly with follow-up units, rather than simply firing at suspected positions in order to safely get through. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 27.33.156.163 (talk) 12:14, 3 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

Recce by fire edit

Recce by fire is the recce party firing at suspected enemy locations with the expectation that there are enemy in those locations and they will return fire and thereby revealing themselves.206.172.40.210 (talk) 19:43, 24 April 2019 (UTC)Reply
