editIt Isn't a lighthouse and never has been, it is in fact a leading light that was built by the Furness railway company and the only one left of its type, And is still in use today. It is one of approximately 8 leading lights that are used for guiding ships into the barrow docks down the channel which starts at lightening knoll. It has never been known as the needle ?.
