So-called "Rainbirds" where we live, on the North shore of Lake Chapala, just South of Guadalajara, Mexico. Every May the "rainbirds" arrive to signal the on-coming Rainy Season, six weeks after the first "rainbirds" are heard, or so it is believed hereabouts. The "rainbirds" are actually cicadas of some sort I am told and they emit a high-pitched squeeling sort of sound which might be mistaken for a bird's call.
