Talk:Private sub-domain registry

Latest comment: 9 years ago by Roybadami in topic Not an established term

I moved this article from "Independent Domain Registrars" to "Independent Domain Registries" because the organisations mentioned actually operate the authoritative databases for their respective DNS namespaces, and as such are domain registries rather than domain registrars, who are authorised to manage registrations at the registry.

Disclosure: I work for CentralNic, one of the companies mentioned. Gavin Brown 15:37, 8 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Not an established term edit

I have a problem with the title of this article in that I dont' believe that "Independent Domain Registry" is an established term. Googling it finds about two references to this phrase, not including references on Wikipedia itself, which leads me to suspect that this Wikipedia article is the original source of the term.

I propose renaming this article to "Private Sub-Domain Registries", since this is the term that CentralNIC, the leading such registry, uses to describe themselves here https://www.centralnic.com/company/innovation Roybadami (talk) 18:49, 2 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Now moved (and made title follow wikipedia naming conventions) Roybadami (talk) 00:04, 6 November 2014 (UTC)Reply
