"Even though the Prestes Maia building is still unused, it has become a symbol of struggle and victory for many Brazilians, showing the power of humble people who stood up for their rights and resisted entrenched financial and government power." Name conflict and redirection

A less ambiguous way to refer to the occupation of the Prestes Maia Building in downtown São Paulo would be to call this page either Prestes Maia Occupation or Prestes Maia Building. I am currently creating a stub article about the man for whom this building was named, former mayor of São Paulo, Francisco Prestes Maia. As a prominent figure during the mid-20th century, there are many important landmarks in the Brazilian states of São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, and Rio Grande do Sul which are named for this man. Eventually, many of these could have articles on Wikipedia as well. In that case, Prestes Maia could be a disambiguation page, rather than point to this, albeit important, event.

I am still relatively new to creating new stub articles from scratch, having only made two prior to the one that I just referenced. However, I am enrolled in a six-week School of Open course, taught by @Peteforsyth:. Redirecting other articles is something that we haven't covered in the course, but I figured the talk page would be a pretty good place to start. --giso6150 (talk) 13:31, 21 March 2014 (UTC)

UPDATE: While researching Francisco Prestes Maia, I uncovered more information about the occupation of this building, so I updated the opening paragraph to be more explicitly about the building, the most interesting/noteworthy aspect of which is the occupation by the MST. For the reasons that I enumerated above, I will be redirecting this article to Prestes Maia (building) unless I hear strong opposition to the contrary relatively soon. --giso6150 (talk) 04:01, 22 March 2014 (UTC)
