First Party, first referendum and first president

edit

Question: I have informations that the first political party was the Peoples Muthagadhim party, formed in 1951, that the people's referendum was announced in 1952, and in January 1953 the republic was announced and Al Amir Mohamed Amin was sworn in as the first president, killed 7 month later. But the history section starts with 1968. CoYep 17:26, 25 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

From the official site of the Maldivian government [1] "The First Republic was declared in 1953 with Mohammad Amin Didi as the President. President Mohammad Amin Didi made invaluable contributions in all areas of Maldivian life. The presidency of Amin, however, was short lived. A monarchy was reestablished. It was a Constitutional Monarchy with Sultan Mohammad Farid on the throne." What do you think about including that information into the history section? CoYep 11:49, 7 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Yeah Muthagadhim party was formed before Second Republic (Maldive Islands) and therefore, I think, cannot be first political party? --Oblivious 04:27, 12 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Maldives has a long standing history of political backstabbing and power struggles going back into the history. Much historical facts have been distorted by the present regime and it is quite saddening that the realities have been squashed to present a more egalitarian society. The current generation has literally very little accurate historical documentation to prove who we are, where we are from. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.43.222.174 (talk) 14:36, 29 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Beware of spin by PR firm Hill & Knowlton

Please note that the IP 194.242.55.7 edited this article as well as the one about Ahmed Shafeeq Ibrahim Moosa [2]. As this edit reveals, the IP 194.242.55.7 is used by Niallcook, according to his page "worldwide director of marketing technology for communications firm Hill & Knowlton". His PR firm - best known internationally for spreading the lie about Kuwaiti babies thrown out of incubators in order to sell the Gulf war to the US public - was hired by the notorious Madivian government in order to improve its reputation and, on top of obscene vandalism, was found to manipulate wikipedia articles as reported here: [3] [4] [5] [6]. There may be more accounts that were used to influence this article. Using the wiki-tool of a whois search, one can find that all IPs in the range of 194.242.55.0 - 194.242.55.255 belong to Hill & Knowlton. Knopffabrik (talk) 18:34, 14 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
