Problem - incorrect shield depicted edit

Problem: Depicted shield is not actually a parma. Depicted shield is a 'gallic shield'. (Refer to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shield). Parma refers to a ROUND shield, with a wicker core, covered by ox-hide, and probably with a metal boss in the center. I saw that as well, though I think it's a Cetratus/Cetra shield, a kind of shield in use during the late empire. I remove the photo box. 2001:4DD6:FB7C:0:DC42:C4E3:E15F:92A1 (talk) 03:12, 25 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

Shield dimensions edit

The dimensions given for the shield clearly fail to match the shield in the picture. If the parma is a ROUND shield, the 'yard across' would make a lot more sense. Theblindsage 05:52, 8 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Parmula edit

The use of the word parmularius in both Quintilian and Suetonius to refer specifically to the Thraex (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thraex) type of gladiator argues for at least its iconic use by them if not its exclusive use.67.101.119.99 (talk) 18:34, 29 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

further, though I understand placing the parmula together with the parma (as it is in Smith, and since they are obviously etymologically connected), as the parmula is generally agreed to be the shield of the Thraex, and the shield of the Thraex is generally depicted as square, where the parma is described as round (in Smith and elsewhere), really they should be separated as entirely different types.67.101.119.99 (talk) 20:16, 11 May 2011 (UTC)Reply
