Decrease vs increase edit

I thought panning could only decrease signals, so if you pan to the right for example, you are only turning down the left channel. Am I wrong? Or am I talking about balance? Is balance the same as panning? --Lenilucho 13:15, 20 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Balance and panning are not the same thing, and this article should cover both. Panning boosts the signal in one channel while lowering the other. See [1] and [2]Omegatron 06:04, 25 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Omegatron is correct. Balance is very different from panning. Balance involves the individual levels of a stereo audio signal, while panning is the concurrent raising/lowering of left/right audio signals to create a "sweeping" effect, or just to re-create a placement in the respective recording session. Ideally, this article should be more informative in both techniques.

Don't understand edit

Could someone add some explanatory text that's easy to understand? I came here from the link in Queen II. Thanks. --Dweller (talk) 13:54, 18 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
