Talk:Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, Lowestoft
Common name
editAdmittedly, I now regret adding a small section that describes the parish that the church is in. Especially, if it means changing the name of the article to the parish that the church happens to be in. It was just a small paragraph so that the history of St Nicholas' in Pakefield would be recorded on Wikipedia (it had verifiable sources too). To name the article after that parish, especially as parishes merge and change all the time, just seems contrary to the church's common name. No one says "I'm going to Mass at the parish," or "nice windows in that parish", or "nice Grade II listed parish". Just because it includes information on the parish, doesn't mean that it is about the parish. I'm happy to be wrong if consensus says otherwise. Cardofk (talk) 15:32, 11 February 2022 (UTC)
- P.S. If someone does again change the name of the article, please fix the navboxes when you move the article. Cheers, Cardofk (talk) 15:33, 11 February 2022 (UTC)
- Have no regrets. What's wrong with a parish title? It more accurately describes the contents. Laurel Lodged (talk) 16:14, 11 February 2022 (UTC)
- "Have no regrets." - nice, that made me smile. Anyway, yes, for me, what's wrong with the parish title is two things. Firstly, that the lead section of the article describes the church, not the parish. Even when the parish is mentioned, it is in terms of the church, the parish church. Secondly, parishes change a lot. The parishes merge, get renamed, get suppressed, but the church building remains. One example is Our Lady and St Joseph's Church, Carlisle and this is a pretty common example, the dioceses of Hexham and Newcastle, Middlesbrough and Lancaster have changed their parish structures a lot recently.
