Contradiction
editSomeone must have commented on the apparent contradiction in their name. How can they be organised and independent? If they are indipendent from each other then how are they organised and vice versa.--JK the unwise 19:15, 10 November 2006 (UTC)
- True, though it's not unknown for councils and other bodies, even parliaments, to have a formal "independent" group. Uusually that's to allow independent members a share in committee seats, speaking rights and so forth but sometimes it appears they do seek to pursue common aims. Some Residents Associations use the label "independent", confusing "independent of political parties" with "independent from other candidates/post holders" (is it a coincidence that two prominent OIs from the 2001-2002 period, when the "what does independent mean?" argument was at its height, came from towns bordering a borough council long run by such "independents"?). And the term was coined from outside the OIs but stuck. Timrollpickering 20:03, 10 November 2006 (UTC)
