Talk:Northern crested newt

Latest comment: 4 years ago by Enwebb in topic GA Review

A question.....Why does this article have the title Northern Crested Newt rather than Great Crested Newt which then redirects to this page? I can see that this was changed in 2013 but the editor did not give an explanation. Great Crested Newt is the most frequently used common name in the UK for this species, so the majority of the English speakers in the native range would refer to it as the Great Crested Newt, although I can understand that in other countries it's common name might translate as Northern Crested Newt this is English Wikipedia so I am unclear why Northern Crested Newt should take precedence over the most commonly used English form. I am new to editing in Wikipedia and do not know how to change the title and redirect. Lizzierd (talk) 20:30, 15 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

This article has been badly abused. I suggest transplanting something reliable rather than correcting the many jokes put in. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.158.62.178 (talk) 12:26, 5 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

I've reverted this article back to a reasonable version due to vandalism. Mulletsrokkify (talk) 20:16, 16 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

lead claims this newt is found in europe and parts of asia

edit

the lead claims this newt is found in europe and parts of asia however the range map doesnt show any green in or near asia? I would suggest changing it just to say europe. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.96.14.189 (talk) 14:36, 6 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Proportions

edit

How many cervical, dorsal, sacral, and caudal vertebra does it have? And how long and tall are each vertebra, neutral spine, and rib? Lastly, what vertebra are the Anterior and Posterior limbs ajescent to respectively? Thanks in advance, i need this information for a project I'm working on. This doesn't need to be, and probably shouldn't be, added to the article, simply needed for personal use. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 142.176.114.76 (talk) 20:05, 10 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

  • Males develop a conspicuous jagged crest during the breeding season I feel like an anatomical term would be helpful here. Where do males get the crest?
Now specified that they develop the crest on the back and tail. Tylototriton (talk) 12:52, 30 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
  • Males court females with a ritualised display and deposit a spermatophore. deposit it where? On the ground or in the female?
Now more specific, both in main text and lead. Tylototriton (talk) 12:52, 30 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
  • During the aquatic breeding season, males develop an up to 1.5 cm (0.59 in) high crest,... I'd rephrase this so that it's "males develop a crest up to x cm high"

  • 2nd paragraph in distribution needs citations

  • The cloacae of males swell during breeding season, and they have a blue–white flash running along the sides of the tail. do they have the blue-white flash along the tail at all times, or just during breeding season? If only during breeding season, I would rewrite as "During breeding season, x and y happens."

  • I'm having a hard time seeing the licensing information on this video. Do you see where on Vimeo it says CC 3.0?
Struggled a bit myself, it's quite hidden: You have to click on "More..." next to the date ("7 years ago"), which then shows a pop-up with an icon for the CC 3.0 license. Tylototriton (talk) 12:52, 30 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
