Merger proposal

The result of this discussion was to merge. ~ Arkhandar (message me) 18:19, 26 February 2019 (UTC)

I propose to merge Nintendo 3DS family into Nintendo 3DS. I think that the content in the Nintendo 3DS family article can easily be explained in the context of Nintendo 3DS, and the Nintendo 3DS article is of a reasonable size that the merging of Nintendo 3DS family will not cause any problems as far as article size is concerned. Additionally, I propose not merging the comparison table as it's already covered in Eighth generation of video game consoles. ~ Arkhandar (message me) 14:06, 25 February 2019 (UTC)

I’m not sure why @Arkhandar: prefers the confusing “This article is about the Nintendo 3DS family of systems, its original model of the same name, and its larger model, the Nintendo 3DS XL“ over a simple, encyclopedic “This article is about the Nintendo 3DS, the Nintendo 3DS XL, and its family of systems”. — EzekielT Talk 19:12, 26 February 2019 (UTC)

Both are overly wordy and awkward. There’s no reason to list out XL separately when when it’s already encompassed by 3DS/3DS family of systems. It’s redundant. These notes arent meant to be an introduction to the article or anything. It’s just there to help people with their search terms with similarly named articles. All we need to do is establish the name of this article, and the similarly named ones. The shorter, the better. See WP:HATNOTE, specifically WP:ONESHORTHAT, for more info. 3DS dead?

Apparently Persona Q2: New Cinema Labyrinth was released yesterday, and I saw somewhere that will be the last 3DS game released in North America. Furthermore, Nintendo's Retailers section has the 3DS grouped with the undisputably dead Wii and Nintendo DS, among other, older consoles like the GameCube and Game Boy Advance, as shown here.

So, should we say it's dead? MightyArms (talk) 23:18, 5 June 2019 (UTC)

It would be good to find news of a hardware production stopage first, if we can. -- ferret (talk) 23:33, 5 June 2019 (UTC)
No, generally we wait until Nintendo or a reliable source states production has ended. Besides, PQ2 may be the last big release, but there will still be small budget and indie games for a while anyways. Sergecross73 msg me 23:37, 5 June 2019 (UTC)

Protection?

This page is being a target of juvenile vandalism. Protect? MightyArms (talk) 23:35, 22 June 2019 (UTC)

Furthermore, all other articles on recent Nintendo consoles (except Wii U) have protection applied (Wii, Nintendo DS, Nintendo Switch, etc.) Why not this one? MightyArms (talk) 23:37, 22 June 2019 (UTC)

The status of the other articles is largely irrelevant here. It all comes down to the vandalism occurring at each individual article, and whether it not anyone reports it, or and Admin notice it naturally. There has been some vandalism here, but it’s been relatively minor and quickly reverted. I wouldn’t oppose it if someone protected it, but I would personally do it quite yet either. For some time now, the New Nintendo 3DS XL is no longer being officially sold NEW on the United States of America Nintendo website. I tried to see if the system is discontinued for the other places. They all show the listing for it but I am only able to determine that the system is unavailable in Australia. Can you check to see if the system ha been discontinued elsewhere in addition to updating the New Nintendo 3DS XL in the comparison table to being unavailable in US?

Not done. It's not clear what change(s) you want to make. Please make a precise request and provide reliable, secondary sources for any claims made. –Deacon Vorbis (carbon • videos) 22:58, 20 August 2019 (UTC)

New Nintendo 2DS XL does not have automatic brightness adjustment. JivanZa (talk) 04:43, 25 August 2019 (UTC)

I've changed this like you said and also added citation needed tags, because citations are currently lacking there. Stefvanschie (talk) 08:23, 25 August 2019 (UTC)

Change the category section so it's in the category "Cameras for video game hardware"

Not done - Category doesn’t seem to exist. Not sure what that would mean either 3DS would be “video games hardware with a camera”, but not “for” it. Sergecross73 msg me 21:03, 12 April 2020 (UTC)

The discontinuation

Regarding the discontinuation of this console on the 17th September 2020, I feel we should put the article into the past tense. Lbc07 (talk) 21:29, 19 September 2020 (UTC)

No, the only thing that has changed is that new ones aren’t being made anymore. They still exist currently, so they should still mentioned in the current tense. That’s how it’s generally handled - see Wii, Game Gear, Sega Saturn, Dreamcast, etc. Sergecross73 msg me 21:56, 19 September 2020 (UTC)
The sources mentioned in the article lists the discontinuation date as September 17th, 2020 and this conversation lists the discontinuation date as September 17th, 2020. So why does the article list it as the 16th of 2020? --Mbrickn (talk) 22:16, 16 March 2021 (UTC)

Homebrew

Shouldn't this article have at least a mention of the homebrew/hacking scene? flarn2006 [u t c] time: 23:29, 9 December 2020 (UTC)

It depends on what reliable sources have to say on it. (On Wikipedia, that means your IGNs and Eurogamers, not “isoromfree.com” or “darkhackernintendo.com” type sites.) Sergecross73 msg me 23:44, 9 December 2020 (UTC)

I personally think that coverage on homebrew is important, however there really aren't any sources for this stuff that would be considered reliable. Radostin04 (talk) 07:59, 20 June 2021 (UTC)

Yes, that's exactly why these sorts of sections are often short or deleted. Sergecross73 msg me 16:08, 20 June 2021 (UTC)

Questionable sentence

While the 3DS stands as the lowest-selling Nintendo handheld, largely due to major adoption of smart devices, it is still regarded as a success, hosting several critically acclaimed games that helped it stay competitive, and helping Nintendo stay relevant in the industry despite the commercial underperformance of the Wii U.

I have no clue if this tethers towards WP:BIASED, but I don't think it stands well on the article itself. -- PanchamBro (talkcontributions) 04:57, 11 February 2022 (UTC)
