Redundant category?

edit

Hi User:Peter coxhead, I am curious to know why you consider the category Flora of Greenland redundant? I added the category to improve the category page for Flora of Greenland . IBDJacobsen (talk) 15:38, 21 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

@IBDJackobsen: it's a general principle that we use the highest distribution category appropriate, and don't include sub-areas of areas already categorized. Greenland is part of the WGSRPD region North America. Category:Orchids of North America is already there. See Wikipedia:WikiProject Plants/World Geographical Scheme for Recording Plant Distributions#Using the categorization hierarchy. You would only expect a plant to be in Category:Flora of Greenland if it only occurs in Greenland or a few parts of WGSRPD's North America. If it's widely distributed it will be in a higher category.
