Mofetil, mycophenolate mofetil, mycophenolic acid edit
Could someone clarify the relationship between these three things, especially considering that WHO gives both mofetil and mycophenolic acid as equivalent to mycophenolate mofetil hydrochloride, but only the latter as equivalent to mycophenolate mofetil, while attributing different formulas to them? How precisely is each of these terms meant to be used? Palpalpalpal (talk) 15:30, 26 October 2014 (UTC)
- "Mycophenolic acid" is the acid you linked to; this is the active substance. "Mycophenolate mofetil" is a different molecule (no idea why the WHO lists it as a synonym) – it is the ester of mycophenolic acid and the structure referred to as "mofetil" in your other link. Again, I've no idea why "mycophenolate mofetil hydrochloride" is given as a synonym of mofetil; this too is wrong. (There isn't even a chlorine in the structure, let alone mycophenolic acid.) The Wikipedia articles Mycophenolate mofetil and Mycophenolic acid have the correct structures. Hope that explains. --ἀνυπόδητος (talk) 17:03, 26 October 2014 (UTC)
