Captain John Christie Stewart, CBE, succeeded him as Laird of Murdostoun. Captain Stewart married a lady from Wales.
This snippet from Burke's Genealogical and heraldic history of the landed gentry: Volume 1 1937 seems to indicate his wife was Scottish:

... Agnes, dau. of Robert Marshall, and was father of. John Campbell Douglas, who s. as 18th Laird at the death -io July, ... Agnes Violet Averil, b. 1901 ; m. 1928 • John Christie Stewart of Murdostoun Castle, Newmains ...

Mrs. Averil Douglas Stewart was indeed from Wales, although Douglas is a Scottish name. Additional information has been added to the article to verify this.

It seems unlikely that Mr. Robert King Stewart, B.A., is, in 2016, proprietor of Murdostoun and Langbyres, and the younger, Mr. William Lindsay Stewart, is still proprietor of the lands of Stanmore, situate in the upper ward of Lanarkshire. Shipsview (talk) 18:38, 5 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
