Character list edit

I thought that by distinguishing the obviously many characters to major and supporting ones it will be easier to someone unfamiliar with the series to understand who is who.The distinction was mainly based on how much screen time each character was given and ,most importantly, whether and to what an extent his/her actions influenced the story. That is why some character with relatively little screen time like Lala Ömer and Davud were included in the major list.If anyone would like to add or correct something,I would love to hear what he/she has to say. Chris Liak (talk) 20:17, 22 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

I failed to mention that while Kösem's children served as recurring characters in season one I included them in the major list, assuming they will be major characters next season. The same thing I did with Murad's wife Ayşe though she hasn't appeared yet.If you think that these characters should be moved to the other list, feel free to do so. Chris Liak (talk) 20:23, 22 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

I have finally decided to distinguish the characters based on where season one left off,as well as delete any information that hasn't been validated by the show itself (whether this means by teasers or promotional pictures) and wait until more information on season two is released by the producers in any form .I also have omitted Farah Zeynep Abdullah,as her character has been revealed to probably not be the one I thought. If anyone else hasn't done it already,I will add her once again as soon as I am provided with undisputed information. Please forgive my off-handedness. Chris Liak (talk) 14:48, 24 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

@Chris Liak You did the right thing by separating the characters into two subgroups, major and supporting. If you believe that a character should be added or removed from a list just say it and we'll discuss it here. Kösem's children absolutely should be included on the major characters list as they're going to play an important role in the story. Many information has also been validated by the show's official website, such as Leyla Feray portraying Ayşe Sultan, who is Murad's wife not his sister. These two historical figures just accidentally had the same name. Farah Zeynep Abdullah is also said to be portraying the daughter of the Hungarian King. These and other information can be found and checked on the show's official website in Turkish. Keivan.fTalk 08:52, 31 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

As it seems you were right.Thank you for providing me and the readers this information and overall contributing to the page.As for adding or omitting characters,I believe we should move Meleksima,Kuyucu Murad and possibly Mehmed to the supporting characters list, since they themselves didn't influence the story much in any way,at least not as far as I can see.The pashas introduced in season 2 should also,I think,be moved there until we get to see more of them. Finally,I suggest we add a season 2 summary of what is known so far to the plot, based on the character information found on the show's website as well as the new season's teasers. Chris Liak (talk) 13:56, 1 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

In regards to my suggestion, there are two options the way I see it:either just set the new season plot's outline by including only the information provided by the teasers, such as the end of Kösem's regency,Farya's arrival etc. or expand on details using the show's website. In any case,Ithought that it wouldn't do any harm to provide the readers with more information, especially since it is validated.I would love to hear your opinion on the matter. Chris Liak (talk) 14:22, 1 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

@Chris Liak Sorry, I hadn't seen your messages here as you hadn't mentioned my username like this: @Keivan.f which would notify me of your response. I read what you wrote above and I agree with you on moving the names of pashas to "supporting characters" for now until we understand how they are going to influence the story. Meleksima and Murad can also be moved to the supporting characters list but I think Mehmed should remain on the major list as his rivalry with his brother was one of the main points of the story. As for a season summary, I suggest we all wait until the premiere of season 2 because not all the information is included on the teasers. Obviously they don't want the audience to realize what the whole story is about just by watching the teasers and that's why I think they're not enough for writing a plot for season 2. It's also true that the official website provides some general descriptions about the characters but they don't give an insight into the story. Besides we have already included these information on explanation charts for each character. Keivan.fTalk 00:22, 3 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

@Keivan.f Hello.Thank you for responding.Well I wasn't sure what to make of Mehmed, but I suppose you are right about him, even if he did little other than squabble with Osman during his time on the show.About the characters, though, the thing is that Tims TV does actually provides us with some insight into their stories.I don't know if you have any knowledge of the Turkish language and thus have, likely, already read it but after watching (fanatically) the muhteşem yüzyıl series for five years,I was able to make out many important information about the characters arcs in the respective pages, for example that Murad's wife Ayşe won't give up on him that readily ,that Gevherhan will clash with her brother and mother, that Bayezid will be dragged into conflict etc.Overall we already have the outline of a good part of the season.Besides it makes perfect sense,at least the way I see it,to provide the fans with a few information to keep them on edge until they air.Perhaps it would be better to wait,as you said, but in any case,in order to give you a better view ofull my thoughts so that we can conclude on the subject,I am including a small, strictly based on validated information summary I put up in my mind which I think is OK,if nothing: "Kösem has been the all-powerful Valide Sultan and regent to her son Sultan Murad IV for nearly a decade, when the latter decides to deprive her of her authority and the two clash;the control of the state fully in his hands,Murad makes his plans of restoring it to the times of prosperity and conquest and checking corruption publicly known. At the same time,Hungarian princess Farya Bethlen seeks refuge at the Ottoman court and the instant attraction between her and the Sultan causes reactions.A strain is also put on Murad's relationship with his sister Gevherhan after the execution of her husband,as well as in hers with their mother, when she eventually opts for love instead of power games, collision looming dangerously close.Their half-brother and Crown Prince,Bayezid, though loyal himself to the sultan,is drawn in conflict too,due to the ambitions of his long obscured by Kösem mother,Gülbahar, all the while the other princes' and infidels agendas remain unknown (and anti-Ottoman sentiments and plans resurface in the West)." That last sentence has been confirmed by a trailer that was later deleted, and that is why I am not at all sure about including it,if we add a season 2 summary after all. Please forgive my English,I'm afraid it has gone a bit rusty over the years. @Chris Liak Hi. Sorry for my late response. I was really busy in my daily life. Anyway, as of your question about my knowledge of Turkish, the answer is yes, I have a basic knowledge of it which helps me understand some written sentences and also the conversations but I cannot speak myself. My paternal grandmother is fluent in Azerbaijani which has the same roots with Turkish so I became interested and decided to learn about these languages. Anyway, what you said above seems reasonable. It's totally OK to have a brief summary of the upcoming season. Then we can change the information when the episodes start to air. Also don't worry about your English, you're pretty good. I'm not a native speaker myself and I have learned it like you and many others. ;) Keivan.fTalk 23:53, 4 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
@Chris Liak And one more thing. Do you have rollback rights on Wikipedia? Because on your user page it's stated that you're a rollbacker. It's not something you can become automatically, an administrator must grant it to you which gives you the permission to revert the edits. If you are really a rollbacker then it's fine, but if you're not please refrain from mentioning it on your page. Have a nice day. Keivan.fTalk 00:11, 5 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for giving me that information on Rollbacking,I had no idea. There is so much one has to learn upon joining wikipedia that I still haven't even read all of it.I'll be quick to edit my page.About the summary,I am assuming that, since we agree, you are alright with me using the one I included before,so I am adding it to the plot along with a couple of details confirmed by the latest trailer. From then on it goes without saying that we can discuss whatever changes you think we should make.Have a good day yourself.;) Chris Liak (talk) 20:52, 5 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

@Keivan.f once again I forgot to answer you properly :p.Again, have a good day. Chris Liak (talk) 20:53, 5 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

@Chris Liak No problem. I have added this page to my watchlist so I can check to see whether it's updated or not. For mentioning a user on your comment in order to notify him/her you should either write down his user name like this @User:Chris Liak|Chris Liak and then put the barckets [[]] on the two sides to create a link or put his name on this template Template:Ping, go to its link and it gives you information on how to use this template. Keivan.fTalk 21:20, 5 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

@Keivan.f Thank you very much for informing me.I would like to ask you a hopefully not too irrelevant question:has Canan Ergüder joined the cast after all?So far I haven't found anything saying she won't but she is not shown anywhere in TIMS or FOX TV's websites. If you know anything on the subject,I would appreciate it if you shared it. Chris Liak (talk) 14:24, 6 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

@Chris Liak: As long as I know it was probably a rumor because it seems that she has joined the cast of another TV series. Also it seems that you again couldn't notify me so I corrected it myself but that's OK, just don't forget : between "user" and the "name". And there should be no space between them for example User:Xy|Xy. Keivan.fTalk 05:41, 8 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

@Keivan.f Thinking about it,I do remember leaving a space after all.Thank you for bothering to correct my mistake.About Ergüder,if she indeed is not part of the cast, who will serve as Kösem's main rival?I mean,Gülbahar probably doesn't enjoy much power, just like Halime and Gevherhan and Atike are her daughters at the end of the day. We're left with Farya and Ayşe I guess, right? Chris Liak (talk) 20:10, 8 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

@Chris Liak: No, obviously Gülbahar isn't Kösem's rival. Her purpose is to put her own son on the throne. Besides, Kösem cannot have a romantical rival now as her husband is dead. Based on the released plot it seems that Ayşe is loyal to her so I think Farya is going to be her principal rival. But her true enemy, Turhan, hasn't appeared yet. Keivan.fTalk 21:40, 8 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

@Keivan.f Sorry,I guess saying "rival" was a wrong choice of words on my side. What I actually wondered about is who will take Safiye's place as the season's main antagonist. To me it doesn't seem that there is someone at the moment who can pose a serious threat to Kösem, like take advantage of her fight with Gevherhan etc.I expected another daughter of Safiye to appear to be honest but we'll see,I suppose. Chris Liak (talk) 18:20, 10 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

@Keivan.f Hello Keivan.Since two episodes of season two have already aired,I thought it was time we start replacing the summary and I wanted your opinion on the matter.I found out that Fox's website releases summaries along with each episode whose main points,I think, we can use, along with anylon other information we deem important to begin the new season'so summary. What do you think? Chris Liak (talk) 15:31, 26 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

@Chris Liak: Sure, why not? Well, usually websites of the channels release summaries, and also sometimes these summaries can be found on YouTube's descriptions provided by the official YouTube channel of the series. If you believe that these are useful, then expand the plot summary for season 2. Keivan.fTalk 21:03, 3 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

Farya edit

Wasn't Farya's title "Sultan"? Sultan Murad gave her this title... I would edit this page but I'm afraid of admins who delete many true info. 83.28.230.71 (talk) 19:05, 28 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

Plot edit

Too much detail is not necessary;this is Wikipedia,a general knowledge site if I may use this expression, not Muhteşem Yüzyil Kösem's site.It is best if we stick to the highlights of each season.Correct me if you think I am wrong, but the goal of those of us who edit this part of the page and thus are fans of Muhteşem Yüzyil Kösem should be to present the reader, particularly the one that is interested in watching the show in the future, with each season's basic outline only.If we go into too many details, the plot will be far too lengthy and tiring and a reader and potential viewer might easily lose his/her interest in it. Chris Liak (talk) 14:59, 26 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

In any case though,I would like to thank all of those who contribute to the page. Chris Liak (talk) 15:00, 26 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Murad's daughters edit

@Chris Liak: This thing about Fahriye and Humasah is turning to an edit war, and fortunately as I don't have any interest in engaging in such things, I thought the most reasonable way to solve this issue would be through discussion. Now as you can obviously see the subjects are two Ottoman princesses who have been portrayed under two different names in the series, just like Meylişah whose name was changed to Meleksima, so a simple name changing doesn't mean that a character is fictional. If what you're trying to say is that their story in the TV series doesn't match to that of their real lives, I think I should remind you again that it's a historical fiction and many details don't reflect the actual historical events. Characters like Farya and Gulbahar are considered imaginary and fictional because unlike Fahriye and Humasah no real-life individual has been used as an inspiration for creating them. By the way, I'd be glad to know your opinion as well. Keivan.fTalk 03:10, 1 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

Latest sorting of characters, 2/7/2017 edit

Since MYK spans over more generations and features more prominent characters amongst the royals than MY did, and also features an almost entirely different cast each season, I made a point of slightly changing the sorting of the characters. Thus the characters, except the leading ones (Kösem, Safiye, Ahmed and Murad) are re-sorted according to their family relations and generation as well as importance. In this context couples and siblings are placed as close to each other as possible and a birth order is mostly followed among siblings , even if this means that less important characters take precedent over more important ones (e.g. Ayșe and Farya over Turhan); of course the more general sorting to Major and Supporting still applies, hence any disruptions in the pattern (e.g. Mahfiruze and Gülbahar). It gets a little blurry, I know, but I think that especially now that the show is over, what is most imporant is that an unfamiliar reader gets as clear a view on each generation and the relations between its members as possible.
