Redirect

edit

I changed the redirect from Parts-per notation, which has no information about mixing ratios, to Humidity, which does. MesoCS 22:30, 17 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

I think it would also be appropriate to link this to Air-fuel ratio. It may not be mentioned in the text there, but "mixing ratio" is often used interchangeably with "air-fuel ratio." Maybe should have a disambiguation page, I don't know how to do this though.128.158.214.39 19:52, 8 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

General sentence

edit

I think this article lacks a very general sentence to explain what a mixing ratio is. Something like "A mixing ratio measures the amount of a one specific substance relative to the total amount of substance." — Preceding unsigned comment added by 129.215.139.65 (talk) 09:03, 29 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Mixing ratio of solutions

edit

I think that the article could address the issue of mixing solutions of different concentrations.--86.125.190.163 (talk) 14:48, 3 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

Ambiguities that need clarification

edit

Right now a section reads:

==Mixtures/solutions mixing ratio==
Two binary solutions of different compositions can be mixed with various mixing ratios by masses, moles, or volumes.
The mass fraction of the resulting solution from mixing solutions with mass fractions w1 and w1 is given by:

or, by substituting the densities and considering equal volumes of different concentrations

The formula can be extended to more than 2 solutions to be mixed giving:

Several clarifications are needed:

  1. The section title, and in particular the use of the slash(/) are unclear. Is the section title intended to mean "Mixing ratio of solutions"?
  2. In the second equation, the functions   and   need to be defined.
  3. In the last equation, are   and   supposed to be   and  ? If so, you can check the source code of my talk entry here to see how to get it to display that way.
  4. In the last denominator, is  . intended to be  ?

Thanks for pointing out some slipped aspects. The slash is intended to mean and/or. Rhos are densities of the two solutions and rmi are mixing ratios by mass.--82.137.14.97 (talk) 12:07, 27 July 2016 (UTC)Reply
Adjustments done.--82.137.14.97 (talk) 12:41, 27 July 2016 (UTC)Reply
Some extensions of cases to solutions with 3 components could also be presented.--82.137.14.97 (talk) 12:41, 27 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

Connections needed to apparent volume and volume fraction/concentration

edit

It is useful (I think) to include to article the relations between mixing ratios of solutions (both mass and volume ones) and volume fractions of components on one hand and on the other hand between mixing ratios and volume apparent molar property.--82.137.12.253 (talk) 15:32, 17 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

symbol ξ ?

edit

I've never seen the symbol ξ for mole ratio. Is there any proof that this symbol is commonly used? If not, I'd like to delete ξ from the article again --RolfSander (talk) 16:19, 16 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

No evidence for ξ so I deleted it again--RolfSander (talk) 11:45, 20 January 2018 (UTC)Reply
