I'm sorry, but per User talk:Malleus Fatuorum#Its just not my morning... I can't objectively review this article. I will withdraw my decision to review it from WP:GAN. Nosleep break my slumber 20:28, 22 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi, I'm going to review this article for GA status after Nosleep decided not to. On first glance, the article is short, but on reading the page, it seems to be a concise summary of the horse's life from birth to death, and doesn't seem to omit anything huge. The article does not have any problems with regard to stability, NPOV, cleanup tags, and referencing. I will post my full review here in a bit. Cheers, Dabomb87 (talk) 20:57, 22 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Prose/MOS
Main problem here is jargon and phrasing:
  • "Miss Meyers was a 1949 chestnut-colored mare," It's unclear how "1949" relates to the context. Was she born in that year?
  • "Overall, she won 17 of 59 starts on the racetrack, with 15 seconds and 5 thirds." Sentence structure could be improved; "with" is usually not a great way to tack on additional information, and the logical connection between the two phrases is fuzzy. I'm not sure what a "second" or a "third" is, though that could just be my ignorance.
  • Three straight sentences in "Racing career" start with "She"; mix it up a bit?
  • "More remarkable was the fact that Kid Meyers was orphaned at a month old, when Miss Meyers died in March 1963." "More remarkable" is a bit POV.
  • "Milpool was never raced or shown." What does it mean to be "shown"? Is there a good link for this?
  • "She was inducted into the AQHA's AQHA Hall of Fame in 2009." Probably don't need "AQHA" twice.
  • Explanation for "TB" in the Pedigree section?

That's all for now, will come back with a little more later if necessary. Dabomb87 (talk) 21:15, 22 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Dabomb - if you see any other jargon, please point it out. I'll get on these corrections tomorrow. Ealdgyth - Talk 21:32, 22 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
I think I've addressed all of these. Obviously, this isn't a future FAC candidate (it's a bit short for that!) Ealdgyth - Talk 14:25, 23 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
  • Lead is roughly proportional to the article length. One thing: you might discuss her racing career a bit more than you did. It seems right now that all she's really notable for in terms of racing is her 1953 championship.
Accuracy and sourcing
  • Most of the sources were offline, but of what I checked, everything seemed to be correct.
  • All sources used meet WP:RS, and are properly cited and formatted.
Coverage
  • I'm no expert, but I poked around and the article seems to cover the broad points.
  • Are this and this any use? I suppose they just repeat most of what is found in other sources.
Neutrality
  • Apart from that one problem sentence, which has been fixed, there are no issues here.
Stability
  • Looks good.
Images
  • There are no images.
Misc (looking beyond GA; not required)
  • As a perfunctory note, if there are more available sources, this article should be expanded if possible (not that I expect great things).
  • If possible, find a free image to use.
  • The Racing Record in the infobox, "59-17-15-5", is a ratio, and I think it should use en dashes.
  • This article is only linked in one mainspace page. Try to find other articles on which you can provide a link for Miss Meyers.

Aside from that, nice job, and I will be happy to pass after the resolution of the above comments. Dabomb87 (talk) 16:54, 23 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Added one tidbit and "borrowed" the pic from the AQHA ... I really doubt there will be much more found out about her. There isn't anything about her in the AQHA archives even. (Not that I could use the unpublished stuff here anyway, but with nothing there, there isn't much for other writers to produce new stuff about her.) She's not slated for FAC, she's just too skimpy. Great, passing. Dabomb87 (talk) 18:37, 23 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
