Anyone have an idea why Middlebury,_Vermont is redirecting here as opposed to the other way around? All of the other Vermont towns are TownName,_Vermont. If there is a reason I'll leave it here. Its just a bit odd. :-)

It is a bit odd. The reason is because when Rambot added all the town pages, whenever there was a naming conflict, (town), (village), (city), (CDP), was appended to disambiguate. In the case of Middlebury, Vermont, there is also an entry for Middlebury (CDP), Vermont. A CDP is a Census Designated Place that the Census uses. There are TONS of these instances. I raised the discussion of how to best handle this on the WikiProject Cities talk page: Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Cities#Orphaned towns, villages, cities, and CDP. - Redjar 13:48, 15 May 2004 (UTC)Reply

A good historical book I recently stumbled upon is Andres, Glenn M. "A walking history of Middlebury / by Glenn M. Andres ; revised and edited by Greg Pahl." Middlebury, Vt. : Sheldon Museum, 1997; call-number "F59.M6 A52 1997" in the Middlebury College Library. Online at: http://midddigital.middlebury.edu/walking_history/

Another good online source is "History of Addison County" Edited by H. P. Smith (1886) and available at: http://maozi.middlebury.edu/SharingVTHistory/BooksPamphlets/HAC/DirectoryHAC.html
