Talk:Mercy, Mercy, Mercy! Live at "The Club"

other recordings of the title track of this album

edit

There are vocal versions of this instrumental hit because it was a vocal song first. Duh. Or should I say Doh. Anyway, you can read the Wiki page on Don Covay who co-wrote the song and recorded the first (fairly successful) version in 1964 that went to #1 on the R&B charts and 35 on Billboard's Hot 100. All of which means, of course, that Cannonball's arranger/combo member or whatever did not "write" the song, although some other erroneous Wiki pages give him that credit. OK, Cannonball and crew did a great job with the song, but there is no justification that I can see to overstate the case and claim they were first, either with writing the song or with recording it, so let's stamp out all that false information and replace it with the true facts, including Don Covay. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lovingthesixties (talkcontribs) 05:35, 26 May 2011 (UTC)Reply
