Tornado edit

Anyone got any info on the tornado that hit here a few years back? I think thats relevant to the History section, seeing as one has never hit that far north in NY... or maybe even the US. Ghostalker 23:24, 3 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

I was a victim. I was in 4th grade at the time. The tornado was ranked an F3, but what's interesting is that the F3 scale covers tornado winds up to 206 MPH, and ours was rated at 200 MPH, so it was almost an F4. It's still the most violent storm in recent memory in our region. That storm left the part of the city where I was in in ruins. My house wasn't badly effected (a very small tree went through our living room window, and the house shifted slightly from its foundation, and both of our cars were badly damaged, but they were eventually repaired). This year marks the 9th anniversary of the storm (man, it's hard to believe it happened that long ago - I'm a freshman in college now!). If you want to know more about it, click here, and from the drop-down menu, select "1998: Severe Thunderstorm and Tornado Outbreak". If you want to know anything else about the storm, just ask, but I believe that's all there is to tell. Unless you want to know more about the aftermath...
Tornados are not that uncommon in Saratoga County or even farther north in New York, there have been LOTS of tornados farther north even into Canada. What made this one unusual for this area was its high speed of winds (therefore strength), the length of time it lasted, and the fact that it hit a densely populated urbanized area instead of a trailer park in the woods like tornados normally hit. Usually tornados in this area barely touch down, arent strong, and hit in the middle of nowhere. Tornado destroys hillbilly housing=common un-newsworthy (and no one cares); tornado hits city and normal people= uncommon, newsworthy, and people care.Camelbinky (talk) 17:26, 22 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
