Origin of the word

edit

I wonder where the word marvelous or marvel comes from. In Spanish, the letters "v" and "b" sound very similar. A person using the word must specify whether the letter is a large or small v, or whether it is a "v" of vaca or "b" of burro. Moreover, French words spelled with a "v" are often spelled with a "b" in Spanish. The reason I mention this is because of the city of "Marbella" in the South of Spain. I was wondering whether it might be related to the word "marvel" (maybe in its feminine form) and whether it might come from Arabic. 138.220.65.90 21:23, 29 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
