Foo American

edit

As with the other Foo American articles, this article needs to discuss their arrival in the US, settlement and achievements. Thanks Hmains 02:14, 2 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Ridiculous article

Are we going to have Malaysian Canadian too? Or better, Malaysian Indonesian?__earth (Talk) 15:01, 17 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hey look, we agree on something =). Though an article on Indonesian immigration to Malaysia is probably worth doing. As for this article, I'd suggest renaming it to Immigration from Malaysia to the United States because I don't see any evidence that anyone actually identifies as "Malaysian American". Issues of the cultural identification of immigrants from Malaysia can be addressed here as well as in subsections at the individual Chinese American and Indian American pages (I'd include Malays in there too, but there's barely any Malay immigration to the US anyway, and they're not calling themselves "Malay American"). cab 01:41, 7 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Malaysian AmericanImmigration from Malaysia to the United States — Title is a neologism (see WP:NEO). No evidence that immigrants from Malaysia to the United States actually identify this way instead of just blending into Chinese American, Indian American, etc. communities cab 05:33, 3 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Malaysian American versus Malay American

edit

Should this be Malaysian American or Malay American? There is a difference. Gringo300 05:04, 8 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

IMO (as a Malaysian who grew up in the States) there's no such thing as "Malaysian American"; no one identifies this way and no reliable sources discuss the term, just a few writers use it as a careless label for immigrants from Malaysia. Which is why I suggested the move to Immigration from Malaysia to the United States. cab 05:12, 8 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
Personally, i think the term "Malay American" makes a lot more more sense than the term "Malaysian American". Gringo300 02:52, 9 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
