Fair use rationale for Image:NesMagician.PNG
editImage:NesMagician.PNG is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 05:18, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
Game genre
editMagician is generally rated as a fairly poor RPG, on different gaming websites. I think that poor rating is due to the fatc that it is NOT a role-playing video-game. RPvG's are defined by three main features:
- Abundance of text and interaction with non-playable characters;
- Permanent upgrades of all the character attributes, and possibility of customization (i.e. "role-playing");
- Freedom of exploration of the overworld.
Magician only has one of the three above (the first one), therefore it is not a RPG, it is an adventure game. The fact that it was officially labeled as a RPG by Nintendo is another matter. --Abacos (talk) 12:56, 4 February 2014 (UTC)
Expanded
editI am positive that this page classifies this game under the wrong genre. It lacks all the characteristics of a role-playing game.
Oh, indeed, reviews say it is a bad role-playing game, but they could equally say it is a bad chess game: the fact is, it is a role-playing game as much as a chess game!
I just paste here the characteristics of role-playing video games, according to Wikipedia, just to be quick:
Role-playing_video_game#Characteristics | Magician |
---|---|
1 Story and setting | MEANINGLESS: this characteristic is common to many other video game genres. |
2 Exploration and quests | NO: the game lacks both backtracking and side-quests; what is left is in common with other video game genres. |
3 Items and inventory | NO: the game lacks any weapon or armor, as well the ability to sell any item. |
4 Character actions and abilities | NO: there are no actions depending on a simulated dice-roll against any attribute. |
5 Experience and levels | NO: any level upgrade has no effect on the character's attributes. Actually, the game lacks any attribute related to combat prowess or spellcasting efficiency. |
6 Combat | MEANINGLESS: combat mechanics in action-role-playing games is the same as in action games. |
7 Interface and graphics | MEANINGLESS: this characteristic is common to many other video game genres. |
Zero out of four: Magician is NOT a role-playing game. --Abacos (talk) 10:59, 11 March 2019 (UTC)
