I'm almost tempted to add the WPCanada template here, but that would more be on Mackinaw jacket (in Canada we spell it Mackinac though, despite its pronunciation). Taht the coat was invented in the US Midwest I'm dubious about and need to see a cite; could have been ontario or quebec too. the other spelling to me is also the proper title for this page Mackinac cloth.Skookum1 (talk) 15:00, 25 February 2008 (UTC)

Removed pop culture references

I removed them because they were just a list of places this cloth had appeared, and didn't add to the article, in my opinion. I don't see why fabrics should have a pop culture section. Loggie (talk) 14:04, 21 August 2009 (UTC)

Well, because fabric is an object like anything else, and when it figures in popular culture to the degree that mackinacs do - espcially speaking as a Canadian - it's crazy not to mention their visibility in popular culture, e.g. Bob & Doug Mackenzie, or in Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventures, they're a "staple" item; and they were practically a uniform for the Seattle grunge movment, although I do have to say that Seattle-ites had stange taste in colo. That they fabric is referenced in popular and traditional music is notable. Just ask any Japanese tourist, who buys one almost the same day the buy a Cowichan sweater (and they love plaid...). Historically they're also a part of Frenc Canadian culture almost to the point of cliche, especially in red, and have their roots as a trade good just like Hudson's Bay blankets.Skookum1 (talk) 15:38, 21 August 2009 (UTC)
