I will review this one. --Rosiestep (talk) 04:01, 1 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

Infobox
  • Wife is named in infobox. Wife and daughter are mentioned in Ref1. Recommend mentioning wife, daughter in the article.
Done added to "personal life" section.
Lead
  • References are generally not included in the lead unless the claim is extraordinary.
  • His books, academic papers, and an encyclopedia are mentioned in the Lead, but not again in the article.
  • The opening sentence states he was an archaeologist but the subsequent sections doesn't mention any of his archaeological excavations.
Done I've removed the refs from the lead, and added a new "Academics" section listing his major publications and academic positions. As for "archaeologist", that's what all Chinese sources describe him. He was not a field archaeologist, but a specialist in assessing and studying archaeological artifacts.
Early life and career
  • "In 1951 he" - In 1951, he
  • Is there any information about his parents, family, youth, earlier education?
  • What were the other positions he held besides the director of the bronze research department?
  • Did he have any further education past his degree in history?
  • Ref1 mentions "he joined an underground cell of the Communist Party in 1946" which might be worth stating in the article.
  • None of the sources I've seen talk much about his family background or youth. He started working after graduating from Daxia University, and did not have any further education. I've added his joining the Communist Party to the article, as well as his first position at the museum, which interestingly was as Communist Party secretary.
Cultural Revolution
  • "In 1966 the" - In 1966, the

Rebuilding the Shanghai Museum
  • "In 1985 Ma Chengyuan" - In 1985, Ma Chengyuan
  • wl Hong Kong
  • $10 million - US$10 million
  • "The money still ran short, but he eventually won another 140 million yuan from the city government to complete the building." - I don't think 'won' is correct in this context.

Recovering cultural relics

  • In 1994 Ma Chengyuan - In 1994, Ma Chengyuan

Retirement and suicide
  • Ma Chengyuan
  • Ref 1 mentions "high blood pressure and a weak kidney". These may be important enough to add to the article; it's up to you.

References
  • Refs 1, 4, 6: switch first name/last name to last name/first name
  • Ref 6: switch date to 10 October 2004
