Ma'rib/Marib
editThe spelling used in the article is inconsistent. I've seen both used; Marib seems more common, but perhaps Ma'rib is more correct. Probably either is fine, as long as it's consistent. Tapatio (talk) 19:22, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
"Current" population
editNo reference. Also, what year? Someone the Person (talk) 22:47, 22 October 2009 (UTC)
Saba - Saudi Arabia
editIn the Notes it is said that Saba "survives today (Saba = Sa'abia = Saudi Arabia)." This is wrong. Saudi Arabia has got its name from the House of Saud, not from Saba 217.209.144.206 (talk) 09:23, 21 November 2009 (UTC)
Better title picture
editSeeing as this is a currently inhabited, populated settlement, wouldn't it be more appropriate to show a picture of the actual populated city? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.141.187.64 (talk) 03:05, 22 January 2010 (UTC)
- I completely agree. I unfortunately took no photos in New Ma'rib (if I may call it that) and have not seen any on the web. The new town is not very old - I'm not sure when it began, but not before 1950 - and the old town was still sparsely inhabited as of 2006 and likely still is. I put the photo of Old Ma'rib in because it was interesting and historically relevant, not to represent the current town. Tapatio (talk) 21:59, 30 December 2010 (UTC)

Recent attacks in 2021
editThere were recent attacks, or some news agencies reported this. Unfortunately wikipedia does not have any news in this regard; perhaps the article should be split eventually into a separate history page of Ma'rib as well. (Edit: Added one link to BBC but there are more articles about these recent events -> https://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-56168943 ; second edit - perhaps it refers to the district rather than city, e. g. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marib_District but eithe rway none of the articles currently mention the recent events from 2021 ) 2A02:8388:1602:6D80:C080:419D:679D:C9F8 (talk) 20:37, 26 February 2021 (UTC)
Requested move 22 April 2021
edit- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
The result of the move request was: moved, based on a RMT request, and since that's legit, RM is just unnecessary. Speedy close ─ The Aafī (talk) 22:05, 23 April 2021 (UTC)
Maʼrib → Marib – WP:COMMONNAME. 3.28 million results for Marib compared to 571,000 results for Ma'rib and 5,140 results for the current name, Maʼrib. Marib is used by Washington Post, France24, BBC, Reuters, and Al-Jazeera. Thepharoah17 (talk) 09:41, 22 April 2021 (UTC)
- Comment: WP:TSC seems to support this, recommending "Quran instead of Qur'an". — BarrelProof (talk) 23:08, 22 April 2021 (UTC)
