Word has it in Japan they are encouraged to grow on the border of rice fields since the roots are toxic to moles. Timtak (talk) 07:49, 15 May 2022 (UTC)
There is also a superstition in Japan that if you pick spider lilies (the flowers of which look like flames) then you will have a house fire. Perhaps that was a superstition encouraged by farmers to prevent folks from picking their mole repellent. Timtak (talk) 07:49, 15 May 2022 (UTC)

Hello! As a student editor assigned to this wiki page, I have greatly appreciated all of the suggestions listed here on the talk page. After researching the topic, I wish to add to the article by expanding upon the "description" section, the "cultivation" section and by adding in additional information and citations regarding the flower's cultural significance in Japan. As suggested, I have found information on the toxic properties of L. radiata, which I intend to add to the text along with a bit of information on the medicinal uses for the plant.
