Lote Tree as tree versus Islamic metaphor

I was very surprised to see this article, because there are two trees that are known as Lote. One is a variety of acacia, and the other is a European Hackberry tree. I hope that a botanist comes along and corrects this article.****

I have to agree with the first statement. The lote tree was and is a real tree. The metaphorical use is covered under the article Sidrat al-Muntaha. These two articles are basically identical in what they cover. Even in the Qu'ran, sometimes a lote tree is just a tree. For example, Sura 34:15 states: "Certainly there was a sign for Saba in their abode; two gardens on the right and the left; eat of the sustenance of your Lord and give thanks to Him: a good land and a Forgiving Lord! But they turned aside, so We sent upon them a torrent of which the rush could not be withstood, and in place of their two gardens We gave to them two gardens yielding bitter fruit and (growing) tamarisk and a few lote-trees." — Parsa (talk) 14:39, 16 October 2011 (UTC)

Lote Tree and Lotus Tree

Are they the same tree? Should the article be merged--Rochelimit (talk) 12:14, 12 March 2013 (UTC)
