date of house edit

This extremely early date needs citation- architectural survey report, dendrochronology, or just a list of features consistent with mid-17th century construction.

Current citation of a 1906 genealogy-focused text wouldn't be considered a reliable source for the date of construction. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Old houses (talkcontribs) 20:39, 14 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

Cited source from the 1930s was part of the 'architectural survey' of the state, and did not include investigation of any individual structures. The survey is based on deed history and genealogy. It is possible the property has been surveyed by an architectural historian, but the owner has not made it public, for whatever reason. To justify such an early date (only one house in the Northeast is proven to predate 1660) a source should at least include architectural features consistent with that early date. Most houses have not had dendrochronology. Most houses have never been seen by an architectural historian. I could say that there's no possible way this house dates to 1640 or 1652, but that would be my opinion. However, without a reliable source, that date cannot be considered reliable.
