Talk:List of the busiest airports in the United States

New Orleans edit

In 2008, New Orleans Airport had about 7.9 million passengers travel through it but it is not on this list... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.20.188.123 (talk) 01:48, 1 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Location city or service city? edit

This list currently mixes the city in which the airport is located, and the primary city served by that airport. For example, this list claims that McCarran International Airport is located in Las Vegas, when it is actually in the nearby town of Paradise, Nevada. In these instances, the decision was made to list the primary city served instead of the actual location of the airport. Then, there are other airports which list their actual location instead of the primary city served. I don't care which location is used but the list should be consistent throughout. Best, epicAdam(talk) 14:26, 29 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

In this case, I have now fixed the first list to match the city (or cities) served by each airport. I might fix the others when I have more time on my hands. Leo-Roy! review/gb 20:35, 30 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

2010 statistics edit

Come on, guys... it's deep into 2011. Time to update these statistics for the 2010 numbers... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 134.48.162.181 (talk) 02:11, 8 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, definitely- where are the statistics? I'll do it if someone can point me to them.--165.82.76.44 (talk) 15:57, 8 April 2011 (UTC)Reply
Alright, I looked into it and 2010 stats will be out in July.165.82.76.44 (talk) 03:38, 14 April 2011 (UTC)Reply
It's June 1st today and the 2010 stats are out. Someone please update the page to reflect those stats. Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.102.201.14 (talk) 17:24, 2 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

Another measurement edit

How about a list sorted by number of takeoffs and landings? 206.53.193.13 (talk) 21:27, 3 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

Major City Served edit

To be clear, the major city served by Newark Int'l Airport (EWR) is NOT Newark, but rather New York. EWR is closer to Manhattan than JFK and it is considered one of NYC's 3 major airports. Newark is the small city in which the airport is located. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 206.210.17.33 (talk) 19:32, 13 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

MIA is too high for 2012 edit

What happened to this list? MIA was the 12th busiest airport in 2012, not the fourth busiest. 98.169.105.223 (talk) 08:47, 29 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

2013 data is out! edit

Hello everyone, preliminary FAA data for 2013 has been posted on the website. I put the link to the page on the Wikipedia page but I don't know how to format the table. Could someone more experienced than I convert the data into a readable format? Thanks a bunch. KBurchfiel (talk) 03:20, 26 June 2014 (UTC)Reply

Sure, I'll do it! KBurchfiel (talk) 06:31, 10 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

Great, thanks. KBurchfiel (talk) 06:31, 10 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

Recent Edits to the Summary Section edit

Someone has twice edited the summary with a position which directly conflicts with the published data. The edits were made from different IP accounts in the same region, so I am not sure how to contact the person directly.

To the person who made the recent edits: can you please provide a reference which supports your position? Thanks. Tystnaden (talk) 21:29, 7 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

I have reverted the recent edits again, because after more research, I am convinced that the edited summary was incorrect, and possibly based on misunderstood data. Tystnaden (talk) 22:26, 7 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

New summary edit

Tystnaden, I think the summary that was added relates to this. -- GB fan 23:19, 7 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

This page is based on officially published FAA numbers of "enplanements". The CNN article you referenced is based on "flights", and that still does not explain the number that was posted by the anon editor. Tystnaden (talk) 00:16, 8 March 2015 (UTC)Reply
I understand what this and the CNN article is based on, just think that is what the IP was trying to get at. -- GB fan 00:19, 8 March 2015 (UTC)Reply
Understood. Hopefully the editor will come here and discuss it before making more edits. -- Tystnaden (talk) 00:28, 8 March 2015 (UTC)Reply
I decided to just remove the comment about which airport is the busiest, to avoid future problems. In any case, this page displays several different rankings, so conflicts are likely. --Tystnaden (talk) 11:53, 10 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

Table: "45 busiest US airports by total passenger traffic (2014)" lists incorrect data edit

Information presented in the above listed table is not consistent with the cited source, ACI-NA. Noted when comparing rankings and data for Miami and Boston. 04/04/2016. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 204.243.174.132 (talk) 14:54, 4 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

I have updated the "45 busiest US airports by total passenger traffic (2014)" table with 2015 numbers and re-sorted the airports based on new numbers. This was my first time editing a table so hopefully I did it correctly. Feel free to check my work. Other sections on this page have not been updated at this time. 07/05/2016 -- Athenanna (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 21:47, 5 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

Mediawiki has an amazing graphic of flight routes but I don't know how to get it to work on wikipedia. Wikideas1 (talk) 04:08, 27 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Confusing wording in intro paragraphs? edit

I'm very confused as to what this sentence means in the intro above the first table: "Accounting for 18% of passenger traffic, medium hubs stimulate point-to-point services like for Southwest Airlines, operating at 29, carrying most mainline passengers at 24 and more than half at 10." Am I the only one who finds this difficult to understand? — Preceding unsigned comment added by N8wilson (talkcontribs) 16:16, 27 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

60th busiest airport edit

The 60th busiest airport should be Ontario International Airport, not Omaha which is 61st. I don't have time to go through all the old reports and find numbers, but if someone else has more time, this should be changed. Smartyllama (talk) 18:21, 19 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

Error edit

I’m not sure what data is being used but I was browsing Omaha (Eppley OMA) airport and on that wiki page it cites over 5 million passengers. But on this list it just has 2 million? I don’t know what the issue is how to check it but I’m flagging it here.

RfC : graphs for US States edit

Hello, I wonder if it would be encyclopedic to show graph of busiest airports per US states : their total passenger through years.
For instance, Florida would show :

Ten Busiest Florida airports. See Wikidata query.

If it's encyclopedic, where should we put these graphs :

Updating after Covid edit

I’m just making a suggestion: the data about passenger numbers isout of date quite a bit, and it should be updated by whoever wants to do it. I ran across this when I was going to use it for information and then realized it was not at all current. 63.155.110.227 (talk) 20:53, 21 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

What about a ranking by number of flights? edit

A ranking of busiest airports (and runways) by number of takeoffs and landings seems like a notable list. Is that data readily available? —Danorton (talk) 19:26, 18 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
