Talk:List of subatomic particles

It seems to me that this list is duplicated by the previously existing list of particles article, which is much more complete, concise, and mature. I strongly suggest that this page be converted into a redirect to that list. --EMS | Talk 6 July 2005 04:10 (UTC)

Redundency

1. I don't see that this list is important enough to appear in both the general Lists category and the "Physics lists" category, especially since "Physics lists" is a category of Lists.
2. Secondly and more importantly, this list is redundent with List of particles and as I see it is a poor repetition of what is that other article. That is the reason for the "mergeto" template having been added.

I am willing to discuss these matters, but I think that I am right on both counts, and Bambaiah seems to agree with me. So if this page is to stay up you will need to make a case for it. My only reason for not redirecting this as soon as a I saw it is that doing so is a fairly dramatic step and liable to be undone if done without either warning or dicussion. Note however that while your objections will stop me from doing a redirect myself, what will happen instead (if you con't make a case for retaining this article) is that it will get listed under votes for deletion, and the administrators decide the issue.

Thank you for coming around on this. I understand about your having put work into this. This is why I have been persistent while at the same time refraining from doing much with this page. (In fact the "mergeto" tag was Bambaiah's doing, although I obviously chose to defend it once it was in place.)

I am hopeful that you will see fit to do the merge. Much of your work appears salvagable, but not by putting it into the list of particles. For example,

• Your talk about valence electrons can be used to expand that stub, and
• The description of the number of neutrons in a nucleus determining the isotope of an element should be mentioned in the neutron article.

It seems to me that you are the one who has both the knowledge and the incentive to do those transfers and do them right. So just use some imagination, and your work will end up counting in all sorts of ways. (The easist option is to just do a redirect and let that be that, but your work deserves better than that. However, it is you who needs to give it better than that if it is to have better. I have other projects, and the same probably also apply to Bambaiah.)
