Talk:List of places with "Silicon" names

Qualification Requirements

edit

It might be good if the page defined some sort of solid requirement for inclusion. I would propose something simple like "has been described using the nickname in a source that is not self-promotional". Silicon Beach (Bournemouth) would fail this criteria, for example - it seems to be only referred to as Silicon Beach by people promoting tech sector investment in Bournemouth, with no external traction. -155.63.200.55 (talk) 21:37, 6 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Out of date info

edit

The www.tbtf.com/siliconia.html page is no longer being updated. It hasn't been since 2001. The page owner doesn't reply to e-mails anymore. The copy at silicongulf.net has a more updated one.

The recent edition of Silicon Cape follows the launch of http://www.siliconcape.com a non-profit initiative that was a trending topic on twitter on the 8th October 2009 ~~ —Preceding unsigned comment added by 41.223.60.60 (talk) 07:54, 8 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Tech Valley

edit

Tech Valley (New York) takes is name as a play off "Silicon Valley", would this be relevant to this article even if it is not a place that uses "Silicon"? It does take its name from that of Silicon Valley as most of the other places on this article do, such as the Silicon Forest and Silicon Alley in Oregon and New York City.Camelbinky (talk) 00:43, 9 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Vandalism

Hi, could someone please rollback the recent vandalism and restore this version? Thanks. -- Horst-schlaemma (talk) 09:33, 15 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

Places that do not meet the list inclusion criteria

edit

There are a number of entries, such as "Cyberabad" and "Health Valley", that are not actually "Silicon" names. There are two ways to clean this up:

  1. Remove any names that don't include "Silicon" or some pun or rhyme thereof
  2. Revise the list inclusion criteria to somehow allow for these entries. This would have to be done carefully so as not to overlap with List of technology centers.

Any thoughts? Ibadibam (talk) 20:36, 20 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

We could just rename the article, thou it might get a little bulkier then. Suggestions? -- Horst-schlaemma (talk) 21:25, 20 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
It seems like there should be a broader reorganization of this list and the technology centers list. I'll propose a merge. Ibadibam (talk) 21:36, 26 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
Good proposal, thank you Ibadibam. -- Horst-schlaemma (talk) 13:05, 27 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
