Add Wyoming, Michigan

Does this page even make sense to exist? I am sure that the individual pages of the respective places can (or even already) include the reference to the source of its naming. I suggest this page be DELETED as soon as possible. Rarelibra 16:46, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

I created this page after a British person I knew expressed surprise that there were places named after places in the U.S. Usually, places in the U.S. are named after places in the Old World if they are named after another place. Certainly, this page doesn't provide any new information not on the pages about the individual places, but that's not what lists of pages are for. -- Mwalcoff 22:14, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

Agreed, this page is fucking dumb. Especially seeing as Bristol was originally a city in the UK. And so was Hartford and Newbury. For that matter, there are a gazillion places in the US named after places in the UK- that this page exists is a testament to American ignorance and self-centeredness.

Insightful page; possible to make sortable?

This is another insightful page, helping us understand when one US town is named after another.

I’m curious… How could we make this table sortable? One use case… sort by Area (left side) to see where in a state the towns are named for another US location Another use case… sort by the Area (right side) and see where others are named for your state

Is it possible to lock the top row, so as you scroll through the entire table you always see the header labels (as can be done in Excel)?

On a related note… Is there a list of towns with unique names? Shouldn’t there be some US Census, or other Federal department, list of such places that could source such a “List of US Places that are Unique / not found anywhere else”. (Would this need two variants… 1) not found anywhere else in the US and 2) not anywhere else in the world?)
