Fictional parishes edit

"St. Odo of Cluny Parish" from A Confederacy of Dunces is listed. I confess to not reading the book, but I thought this was a fictional church parish placed within the city of New Orleans, not a Louisiana municipal parish. If this is the case, while it is interesting, it should be removed from this list. Baronplantagenet 01:14, 30 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

No idea whether it's fictional or real... but it's certainly a church parish within the city of New Orleans. Deleted. Lewis Trondheim (talk) 20:34, 12 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Parish Map edit

This map is terrible. Because of the inclusion of major cities (which I do not object to) parish names are displaced from the proper area on the map. This, along with lettering that's squished together, makes the map confusing and hard to read. A larger and clearer labeled one would be appreciated. さきこ (talk) 08:55, 8 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

I am working on a new one based on this. It is an svg.Michael miceli (talk) 05:41, 28 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Red links? edit

Here's a section:

The thirteen counties defined by the Territorial Legislative Council in 1803 were:
#Acadia County
#Attakapas County
#Concordia County
#German Coast County
#Iberville County
#Lafourche County
#Natchitoches County
#Opelousas County
#Orleans County
#Ouachita County
#Pointe Coupee County
#Rapides County

In addition, Feliciana County was established in 1810 from West Florida territory.

Is it really necessary to wikilink all those? They all appear to have only this page linking to them. Will those articles ever be created? Timneu22 (talk) 19:14, 29 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

area edit

Areas here in mi² are in km² in reality! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.186.158.237 (talk) 08:34, 26 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

So they are - I get a total of 145,600 sq mi total - a hideous error indeed. Louisiana's large proportion of water also leads to inevitable confusing different area figures, but this is not an issue here. Fixing now. -- the Great Gavini 14:25, 7 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
(edit) Now fixed - most of the counties are now about 1,000 sq mi, and if you multiply that by 64 counties you get a much more plausible area for Louisiana of about 64,000 sq mi. It's a wonder this article was on FA. -- the Great Gavini 14:53, 7 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

don't leave me in suspense edit

By 1850, the state had 47 parishes and one unorganized area, Couma Island, whose identity would be sealed in 1952.

What, the island went into Witness Protection?

Most of this new paragraph repeats what's in the following table, anyway. —Tamfang (talk) 00:33, 18 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

Some improper links edit

In the Counties in 1803 section there are links to current parishes as if those counties were directly changed to parishes and this is misleading on some. Acadia County, one of the original 12, links to present Acadia Parish. The original Acadia County (April 10, 1805) was dissolved into Ascension Parish and St. James Parish on March 31, 1807. The current Acadia Parish was formed from parts of St. Landry Parish in 1886 or 81 years later.
Concordia County was renamed Concordia Parish on March 31, 1807. Lafourche County dissolved into Assumption Parish and Lafourche Interior on March 31, 1807 and Lafourche Interior was renamed Lafourche Parish on March 23,1853. Natchitoches County was renamed Natchitoches Parish on March 31, 1807. Opelousas County was dissolved into St. Landry Parish on March 31, 1807. Orleans County was dissolved into Orleans Territory, St. Bernard Parish and Plaquemines Parish on March 31, 1807. Ouachita County was renamed Ouachita Parish on March 31, 1807. Pointe Coupee County was renamed Pointe Coupee Parish on March 31, 1807. Rapides County was dissolved into Avoyelles Parish and Rapides Parish on March 31, 1807. Most Populous Parish edit

Certainly East Baton Rouge is not more populous than Orleans Parish. Furthermore why are there not seperate pages for Orleans Parish and the City of New Orleans? 2600:387:1:803:0:0:0:58 (talk) 01:19, 19 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
