Talk:List of music festivals

Dates edit

As most festivals happen annually (and typically on a consistent weekend/week) we could attempt to include that information on this page. (If we thought it was a good idea, we could put the festivals in each category in that order, or perhaps provide a way to reference all festivals happening in a given month or week.) What do folks think of this? Sendhil 14:08, 8 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Add Isle of Wight festivals edit

Add Isle of Wight festivals (three, I think) B.Bryant 11:56 Dec 26, 2002 (UTC)

Category for Bali arts festival edit

Under what category should I add the BALI ARTS FESTIVAL (Balinese Gamelan)? There should be a heading appropriate for cultures from all over the world. I'm wondering if this page should be organized by location. Perhaps it can be organized two different ways, by type of music and by location. Every festival could be listed twice. --Samuel Wantman 09:12, 23 May 2004 (UTC)Reply

You could just add a new category for the Bali Arts Festival, though what that category would be, I'm not sure. Organising things by genre and georgraphically sounds a good idea to me. --Camembert

Redundant lists elsewhere on wikipedia edit

Suggestion: Either the list in Rock festival or the "Rock music" list in List of music festivals should be deleted, as it doesn't make sense to have two different lists of the same thing in two different entries. Which one should be removed? Alternatively, all the lists of festivals for the different genres could be distributed among the matching main articles, except you find it handy to have a central list. I agree. My suggestion would be to delete the "Rock music" article/list and incorporate everything into one central list of music festivals (this list). If this list was to grow too large, we could still split it up according to genre.

Nah, this list here is way too long... and not too comprehensive either. I reverted the other article. I'd rather not wade through a list that's maybe 7 or 8 pages long for a specific criteria. Right now, the rock list stands out like a sore thumb, since it's evidently larger than the rest of the entries, and has more specific locations and subcategories. --Madchester 02:42, 2005 Mar 15 (UTC)
That's all great, but you did not provide a solution, as we have two different lists now again. At least add something to "Rock festival" saying that the list on there is only very short and does _not_ contain the most important and/or biggest festivals, and that a long list including the important and/or big festivals can be found in this article. Totti 09:49, 15 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Simply redirect the rock list on this page to the actual rock concert page. Wow, what an easy solution! I must be a genius! --69.198.108.83 14:56, 15 Mar 2005 (UTC)
In fact, that is no solution, as Madchester'S problem was, that the rock festival list on this page is too long. Totti 18:45, 15 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Should there not be pages for festivals in each country? Each COutry Festival page could have a list with genres. Looking at the present list: quite a few of these festivals cannot be categorized as only Rock or only Classical etc... Nmacpherson 02:19, 23 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Funk edit

Where would I put funk festivals here? I have heard of them but have never attended one. I don't even know very much about funk music. JIP | Talk 17:24, 11 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

I would suggest either creating a second-level heading Funk festivals, or if you prefer, creating a second-level heading Soul music festivals with a third-level heading Funk festivals under that.
I don't think any of the current headings would be appropriate for festivals devoted to funk alone. (Alternatively if they're wider ranging, add them to the section Cross-genre festivals and they can be recategorised later.) --David Edgar 18:12, 11 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Get that anger management tour off of the rock list, that festival is shit and not rock

List of electronic music festivals edit

Regarding this edit http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=List_of_music_festivals&diff=56781191&oldid=56733091 - Can someone more knowledgeable about the US electronic music festival scene verify if these festivals are noteable enough for inclusion, and if so, change the links to internal links (if articles exist for each festival)? At the moment it looks like major link spam -- Chuq 03:59, 20 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Festival "culture" or scene? edit

Where would an article/sub-article about the general scene or festival culture fit? Is there one already? I can't believe this hasn't been addressed by anyone yet, but I can't find anything decent. If you've been to any of the jam band festivals in particular such as All Good or Bonnaroo, you know how (ummm) "unique" the scene is. There should be libraries written about this stuff.

Early Music a subset of Classical music? edit

Early Music festivals are absent from this list, including the Boston Early Music Festival, the Bloomington Early Music Festival, Amherst Early Music Festival, San Francisco Early Music Festival, and many others. I recognize that early music events may take place at classical music festivals. So should Early Music get its own category, or just be grouped in with Classical Music?

religious festivals edit

christmas, easter, ramadan, eid-ul-fitr, rosh hashannah, pesach, hannukha, harvest, diwali, sabbath, st patricks day etc. , ash wednesday, rakhi, dassera, eid-al-adha, holi, navaratri, yom kippur, wesak.

This article confuses me! What type of list is it meant to be?--gwc 17:32, 25 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

as per this question long ago, I don't see how you can be confused. List of festivals is just that a list of festivals. It doesnt matter which ones as long as they have a relable article and sources.Maverick423 16:03, 9 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Again edit

i see that this list was once proposed. i suggest we acctually make it as it will provide an incite on festivals around the world alone with their traditions. If anything this thing also deserves its own Wikiproject if it hasnt been made. Maverick423 15:56, 9 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Wikiproject edit

im suggesting a WIKIproject that helps wikipedia better understand festivals from all around the world. if you are interested please sign up in the [1] council proposals area. thanks for your time and help Maverick423 16:46, 9 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Religious Festival v Music Festival edit

Can I suggest that two separate pages are created for these? At the moment the vast majority on the list are music festivals and then the odd religious festival/public holiday (e.g. Tết) appears on the list and sticks out like a sore thumb... I suppose the problem is that some people when they hear 'festival' think 'music fesitval' and others think 'ramadan' or whatever. 81.23.54.142 (talk) 22:51, 17 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Burning Man edit

I am not sure that it's accurate to include Burning Man in the list of music festivals. The organizers of Burning Man do not book any bands to perform there, nor do they promote it as a music festival in any way. It's more of a week-long experimental community where attendees practice self-reliance and alternative methods of self-expression. I'm removing it for now as it does not fit the criteria.
