Concern over merge suggestion with List of massacres in Switzerland

I commented on the AfD that suggested a merge just as the closer closed it, so I don't know if my comment was taken on board (which would have tipped the !vote count to keep). In the discussion, no one previously seems to have noticed that mass shootings as typically defined by various authorities are not a subcategory of mass murder. Mass shootings require a certain number of people shot, but not necessarily shot dead. Mass murder (citing the widely used FBI definition) requires a certain number of people killed.

Obviously, it's not good form to try to relitigate a discussion that has just closed, but the absence of editors noticing the difference between the two as set out in authoritative sources seemed worth commenting on. OsFish (talk) 03:01, 11 November 2022 (UTC)

I agree. There are several definitions of mass shooting but several of those definitions don't qualify as mass murder, so several of the ones on this page would not qualify as "massacres". High casualty incidents can also be on that page but IMO this should be a separate list.

Also, I only checked this list because a shooting article I primarily edited was on it, and its listing contained several factual errors, in addition to that of another shooting. I might need to go over the entries here. PARAKANYAA (talk) 04:55, 22 July 2023 (UTC)

Mention regarding gun legislation

@Tellium; Hello, wouldn't including information about libertarian Swiss gun legislation in relation to their relatively low rate of gun violence be relevant? You mention the pages U.K. (practices extreme gun control following Dumblane), Australia (practices gun control following the Port Arthur massacre), and Germany (also practices extreme gun control); Switzerland has mandatory military service for all physically able men and with most of the conscripts keeping their service weapons (incl. assault rifles) at home demonstrates a gun ownership rate somewhat comparable to the U.S.A. (which has information on the 2A and their rate gun violence). This comparaison is also often made by reliable news outlets. B/r NAADAAN (talk) 12:25, 28 July 2023 (UTC)

Switzerland's permissive gun laws are already mentioned in the article on firearms regulation in the CH. I just don't see how pertinent such information is on a list of mass shootings (with domestic and gang-related shootings constituting the vast majority) in Switzerland. The strictness of gun laws isn't mentioned on the articles of mass shootings in Germany, UK, or Australia. Tellium (talk) Tellium (talk) 16:31, 2 August 2023 (UTC)

@Tellium This is an old response but that is because those articles aren't of great quality. Generally, good quality list articles have a lead that explains and elaborates on the list content. To improve this article (or those), that should be added here. Even if it's mentioned there, it helps explain the list content. PARAKANYAA (talk) 03:36, 30 November 2023 (UTC)
