Why were these "key" routes?

This article is a nice start, but needs some work. How about references to major stops that are along these routes, or other reasons why each route is "major?" I'd do this myself, and I will certainly be back to help out. Not tonight though - big midterm in the morning...must contribute to Wikipedia study! From personal experience, I can work on Routes 1, 39, and 66 (between Brigham Circle and Harvard). --Raj Fra 23:38, 23 March 2006 (UTC)

The MBTA Service Plan shows ridership figures for all MBTA routes.

Maps

The T of course has maps for all of its routes, though I'm not sure of the copyright arrangements. If these routes are useful to consider as a group, it might be nifty to show them all on the same map. The textual descriptions of the various alignments get rather tedious and hard to follow. -- Beland 01:41, 23 May 2006 (UTC)

• It would be good to have both maps and textual descriptions, as different people learn things different ways, and only having maps would mean that a blind wikipedia reader would not be able to get any useful information about the routes. Regarding copyright, I thought there was some general principle that work done by the government (at least the federal government) is automaticly public domain and cannot be copyrighted, though on the other hand I think it would also be legal for the MBTA to hire a private contractor to create maps in such a way that the private contractor would own the copyright and there would be a limit to who could use the maps. In any event, I have heard rumors that the MBTA has a library, and if someone wanted to contact the librarians there, that might be a useful source of information about the copyright status of the MBTA's maps. 166.84.7.41 (talk) 18:40, 18 November 2007 (UTC)

Unfortunately, the library at the State Transportation Building was closed several years ago. The status of its collection is unknown, but it is rumored to be in a basement somewhere. Reify-tech (talk) 01:41, 14 February 2018 (UTC)

Location of each route

I think it would be good if the first paragraph about each route contained enough information that someone looking at an ordinary street map which has no information about MBTA routes would be able to figure out where the bus goes. JNW2 (talk) 18:20, 17 November 2007 (UTC)

Route 32 Orange Line Extension?

It seems like extending the Orange Line so it could take over for route 32 might be an obvious thing to do, given that the commuter rail tracks are in exactly the right place and it's the most popular bus route. If there was some external source indicating that people have been advocating for this and or discussing whether the right of way is wide enough to accomodate both Orange Line and commuter rail, they should be included in the article. Cleanup

A few comments. First off, this article has had a cleanup tag pushing two years now. It's high time. Secondly, I question the notability of this list; is there any reason it shouldn't be merged into List of MBTA bus routes or MBTA bus? From the article text, this is a notion the MBTA considered but never put into place. Even presuming a list of "key routes" otherwise would pass POV and OR muster -- which I doubt it would -- no ridership figures are proffered to support any such designation. Much though I love the T, I'm minded to AfD or be bold and merge it barring compelling reasons to keep this.  Ravenswing  14:32, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

I cleaned up the intro, but the route descriptions could probably use more work, and there are some missing routes. Merging with List of MBTA bus routes seems unwise, since that article is already over 60K. Current practice seems to divide up the routes into subarticles by geography, with a redirect pointing to the anchor. It's fine with me if someone wants to do that with these descriptions, as long as the list of key routes is merged with MBTA bus and the redirects pointing here are fixed. -- Beland (talk) 04:38, 19 September 2008 (UTC)

Why three articles?

• MBTA key bus routes
• List of MBTA crosstown bus routes
• List of MBTA bus routes

It looks to me like creating articles was more important to someone than organizing information that helps an encyclopedia reader. Rhadow (talk) 16:58, 13 February 2018 (UTC)

The List is self explanatory, the other two are articles about specific initiatives that are offshoots of the main MBTA Bus article. Key and Crosstown routes had been incorrectly titled as Lists until recently when they were actually articles. They were renamed as part of a recent AfD process, which through a finding of "no consensus" at least determined that they should remain articles. Grk1011 (talk) 15:18, 14 February 2018 (UTC)
