List is completely wrong

This list is completely wrong as it includes both Governors of the "former" State of Rio de Janeiro and of the "new" State of Rio de Janeiro. In 1834, during the Empire of Brazil era, the city of Rio de Janeiro was excluded from the Province of Rio de Janeiro, and became the "Municipality of the Court" or Neutral Municipality, a city belonging to no Province, but directly subject to the Imperial Government. The city of Niterói was the capital of the Province of Rio de Janeiro. Upon the Proclamation of the Republic in 1889, the Province of Rio de Janeiro became the (old) State of Rio de Janeiro (keeping Niterói as its Capital City), while the city of Rio de Janeiro, until then the Municipality of the Court, became the Federal District. When the city of Brasília was founded and became the new Capital of Brazil in 1960, the territory of that city, excluded from the State of Goiás, became the new Federal District, and the old Federal District (corresponding to the city of Rio de Janeiro), became the State of Guanabara (the State of Guanabara was thus a city-State in the Brazilian Federation). The State of Rio de Janeiro continued to exist with its capital in Niterói. In 1975, (old) the State of Rio the Janeiro (that had Niterói as its capital) and the State of Guanabara were joined together and formally merged to create the new State of Rio de Janeiro (with the city of Rio de Janeiro - formerly the seat of the State of Guanabara- as its Capital). The municipality of Niterói lost its status as a State capital, and the city of Rio de Janeiro, the capital of the new State, became a municipality. A new Constitution was adopted for the new State, new Senators were elected to represent it. Form the legal point of view, the old State of Rio de Janeiro ceased to exist with the merger in 1975, and what exists now is a new State, although with the same name as the old State of Rio de Janeiro. Also, the city of Rio de Janeiro is the most prominent part of the new State, so that governors that only governed the countryside cannot be compared with those who governed the whole reunified area. Furthermore, during the era when the territory was divided, the Governors of Guanabara had more influence in national politics then the countryside governors. There should be two articles "list of Governors of the old State of Rio de Janeiro" and "list of Governors of the State of Rio de Janeiro", or one article with several lists, including: a list of Governors of Guanabara, a list of Governors of the old State of Rio de Janeiro, and a list of Governors of the new State. At present, the list gives the false impression that Governors of the old State of Rio de Janeiro (an abolished political entity) governed the same political entity as the Governors of the new State of Rio de Janeiro. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 189.91.66.201 (talk) 14:47, 4 April 2014 (UTC)Reply
