Battlefield Play4Free and League of Legends

Added Battlefield Play for Free to the beta section. Should League of Legends be in this article somewhere? Kristmace (talk) 11:22, 27 June 2011 (UTC)

LoL is not massively multiplayer, it only has 5v5 and 3v3 matches. I'm not sure Battlefield qualifies either, to my knowledge the maximum playercount in a match is 32. My personal understanding of 'massively multiplayer' is that games of this sort support having hundreds of players in-game simultaneously and lobby/matchmaking system for games with limited player counts do not count, though this does not hold true for some games already on this list, such as PangYa. -Seventh Holy Scripture (talk) 06:59, 28 June 2011 (UTC)

Everquest 2: Extended

Can anyone please add Everquest 2: Extended? This is the free version of Everquest 2, but limited to a certain amount of classes. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.253.39.117 (talk) 14:29, 9 May 2011 (UTC)

Minions of Mirth

This is a free mmorpg, level capped at 15/5 for free, $30 one time fee to unlock premium, no subscription. I'll let one of you reg's add it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.167.190.73 (talk) 07:22, 15 December 2007 (UTC)

Guild Wars

What about the category of games that require an initial purchase, but are subscription-free. Guild Wars comes into this category. Once you buy the original game, you can play indefinitely for free. (No limited content, etc.)

If you have to make some form of payment to play the game, then it's not a free game. Marasmusine 20:24, 12 August 2007 (UTC)
Can we perhaps add a new category to this article for non-subscription MMOs? They are technically free (it even says on the Guild Wars game box: FREE ONLINE PLAY :P). --Marshmello 16:31, 15 September 2007 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Marshmello (talkcontribs)
Okay I added a section for non-subscrips and you deleted it. -___- They are one-time fee for account activation, the actual gameplay is free. Thus they are 'free' and should recieve a category. --Marshmello 23:15, 1 October 2007 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Marshmello (talkcontribs)
Okay. A game is offiaclly free if no form of payment is required to play the game regardless of quality of gameplay. You have to PURCHASE note, PURCHASE game disks for Guild Wars and all the expansions so the game is not free.Synx111 23:32, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
I agree with Synx111. I don't have to pay a subscription to keep playing Civilization 4, but I don't think anyone will argue that it is a free game. Marshmello, the list you are thinking of is List of MMORPGs - knock yourself out, that list needs reorganizing into something other than alphabetical order, if you fancy a crack at it. Marasmusine 13:30, 9 October 2007 (UTC)
Then Why is World of Warcraft in the list? You not only have to purchase the discs for that game, but the subscription isn't optional. TsaraV (talk) 12:14, 21 December 2007 (UTC)
Is civilization 4 an MMO? If it is, yes, I'd consider it free. Mike1921 (talk) 16:42, 20 April 2008 (UTC)

Civ 4 is an MMO, but not an RPG. Also, you are required to purchase the disk and therefore it is neither a mmorpg nor free. Duct tape tricorn (talk) 02:22, 21 May 2008 (UTC)

Guild Wars being free to play, and the free-to-play category in general, is important to this article. People will be looking here to find things like it. Semantics of the article's purpose is a dumb reason to exclude one-time activation games. Sifting through a thousand other games that require subscription would not make it a useful entry at all in another article, and usefulness supersedes your arbitrary categorization. Check, mate, etc.; stop deleting this particular category if someone adds it again, okay tards? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.92.231.191 (talk) 23:19, 14 June 2008 (UTC)

Entropia Universe, free?

Can Entropia Universe really be considered free? I mean there is only so much you can do without making at least one monetary deposit ingame. Though there have been people who have made money without depositing, most people give up before they even try. Some flatly refuse to deposit even though they previously had a World of warcraft subscription.

(This comment was originally added my me when I was logged out) Nightwolf 08:34, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

I guess, technically, if it is possible to play the game without making a payment, regardless of the quality of gameplay you would get as a result, then it can be considered free. More specifically, if it is described as free from a reliable source ("Free download, with no subscription fees", according to the official site) then that's how we should be describing it. Marasmusine 20:29, 12 August 2007 (UTC)

Merge to List of MMORPGs

I forward that motion, this is really just a sub-category. webjockey 21:35, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

I don't see why this hasn't already been done - they can easily be in one article, and I think the merge should be done ASAP. Anyone else? Beno1000 21:12, 9 June 2006 (UTC)

If we can come up with a general set of categories to be agreed upon I can merge the two. I was thinking something like 3D sub Free to Play; Pay to Play; Free Trial; Open Beta; Closed Beta; Development and then have the same subs for 2D and Browser-Based. The problem I see is the article getting too large. Maybe have a disambiguation page with links to List of 2D MMOGs and List of 3D MMOGs? That would cut the list a lot to make the articles smaller. I also think it should be renamed to MMOG, as the line of MMORPGs is fine, and MMOGs will include all gray areas. --Odie5533 22:16, 11 June 2006 (UTC)
Wouldn't it make sense to have this -- and the List of MMORPGs entry -- simply as categories?
I agree. Let's merge. Tarinth 22:54, 24 December 2006 (UTC)
Absolutely. Any games on this list that don't have a Wikipedia article should be removed anyway, Wikipedia is not a link repository. --McGeddon 14:40, 15 January 2007 (UTC)

Ok, but if you merge, please keep all the descriptions and images in another category. --Sega31098 15:30 April 2007 (Mountain Time)
The games' main article pages will already have descriptions and images, unless there are any weird oversights where a full description on this page links to a stub article. But yes, we should check that we aren't losing anything valuable. --McGeddon 22:57, 24 April 2007 (UTC)

GunBound

Unless they killed the old GunBound and made a totally new game in its place, GunBound is NOT an MMORPG in ANY sense of the term. Therefore, I removed it from the article. Viltris 21:12, 5 August 2006 (UTC)

Online RPG must meet :

-Online features. -earn/loss resource. -Character leveling (and a character can be a tank, a pokemon or a humanoid form).

So Gunbound IS a Online RPG.

--Magallanes 17:53, 23 July 2007 (UTC)

You've just made these criteria up? This article is for massively-multiplayer online games which are free to play; criteria should be taken from the massively multiplayer online game article. --McGeddon 18:26, 23 July 2007 (UTC)

My mistake, i came form mmorpg so i done a mistake mixing with mmorpg but ...

Massively multiplayer online game (also called MMOG, MMO) is a computer game which is capable of supporting
hundreds or thousands of players simultaneously. By necessity, they are played on the Internet, and feature
at least one persistent world. Some [weasel words] argue that small p
Player-count games, with 200 and fewer players, are also part of the genre;
the persistent world is probably the only "hard" requirement.

And gunbound is a persistent online strategy game, even with 8 concurrent users (less that 200) so Gunbound must be include in the list.

8 players is not massively multiplayer. I tell you what, see if you can find an independent, reliable source that says Gunbound is an MMOG, per our WP:V policy, then we can't complain. MarašmusïneTalk 09:11, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

Free?

Reading through this list, a lot of the games aren't wholly 'free'. A lot of them have items and additional features that must be paid for, or optional subscription services. I feel that these games should have a note about this in the article. 172.203.28.168 13:42, 16 September 2006 (UTC)

What is considered free?

As long as the client if free and there is no subscription fee, a player could continually play a game without paying a single cent. In this situation the game could be considered "free". Cash shop items are optional. If you think about it very few mmorpg's could be considered completely "free", since this would cost the maker money without any source of profit. MrTrubak 13:42, 22 September 2006 (UTC)

A "free" MMORPG is one that has no subscription fee. Premium items or expansion packs do enhance the game, but are not required, and the game is quite playable without it. Eridani 19:14, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

Deleting Two Games

Adventure quest is NOT an MMORPG, and Gate to Heaven's servers are closed down. Djsonik 01:04, 30 September 2006 (UTC)
I'm removing it. I hate that people call this Multiplayer when it isn't. The closest these guys have got is DragonFable, but that's not even got proper PvP... The Knight Of Itan 11:34, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

Eternal Lands

I believe Eternal Lands is free. Should it be added to the list?

Yeah, If its free, put it in the article. Next time, sign your comments with four tildes (~). --Djsonik 00:49, 8 October 2006 (UTC)

"Low Tech" MMORPGs

Shouldn't the browser-based section have a subsection for Low Tech RPGs like Kingdom of Loathing? There are enough of them that if they were all added it would be kind of clunky looking, and I imaging that KoL and Urban Dead, both excellent games, fall in a different category than Runescape.

No, since the idea of classification in this article is not by game engine but rather payment methods, etc

Cleanup

This article needs to be cleaned up. Alot of it reads like an advertisement. Timekeeper 01:23, 1 January 2007 (UTC)

Habbo Hotel

If Entropia Universe is considered free, then I think it would be right to add Habbo Hotel. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Bugatti wikipedio (talkcontribs) 14:41, 12 January 2007 (UTC).

Habbo is not an MMORPG.
But it is an MMOG, which is what the article is about. It should be included. Lannah 00:05, 12 May 2007 (UTC)

Zelderex / Cleanup

Zelderex moved here from a standalone page. Also tried to rearrange and do some minor cleaning with regards to enthusing advert text. With regards to the merging, the problem is that List of MMORPGs is just that, a list with links, whereas right now this article contains several games that don't warrant a full Wiki page, so have information but no Wikipedia link. As and when the merge goes ahead, I would propose using this article's layout, with with any game that already has an article in Wikipedia just saying "See main article" - if it were all shifted over to the other page a lot of information would be lost from the non-wiki'd games because there's nothing to link their place in the list to. As this page stands right now, there's a lot of duplicated information for games that do have an article, which is making the page bloated. Slavedriver 13:13, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

OGame No Longer Free To Play?

I think that OGame should be removed from the list. A new feature called "Officers" was added recently which give whoever buys them an advantage over those who can't, so those who can't afford to buy them are disadvantaged. --Heruur 23:41, 17 February 2007 (UTC)

Though this feature has been added, the game is still free to play. extra features which one has to pay for in many other games can give them a distinct advantage. It should stay on the list —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Emorej717 (talkcontribs) 00:43, 18 March 2007 (UTC).

List of games NOT accurate, it includes NON-free games!

This list has games that are NOT really FREE!!! --Cordially, Abelius 18:23, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

I think NOT

It shan't be merged. A lot of people want to find free games to play, and this article is better oranized. It shows a picture for most of the games, and it has a couple paragraphs of information about it. Although, for the List of MMORPGs, it just shows the name of it, the genre for some, and if it is free, and its style (text, 2D, 3D, etc.). This would be much better alone how it is, and also it would get way ttttttoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo big. The article is long enough, and if they are merged we will lost the great format of this article. PLEASE DO NOT MERGE THEM!!! I thank you greatly,PЄ|>ρ3® 00:21, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

I agree. Free and non-free MMO's are almost 2 entirely different kind of games. Besides, everyone knows the big games, like WoW, Star Wars Galaxies, Auto Assault, etc... This list should be kept up for people looking for free MMO's. Eridani 19:18, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

Shadowbane isn't free...

Free to play, but you have to buy the entire CD. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Sega31098 (talkcontribs) 02:48, 12 March 2007 (UTC).

False. Shadowbane is 100% free, was once free, but isn't anymore. They just recently came out with in-game ads. PЄ|>ρ3® 02:19, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

Cops & Robbers Online

I've removed Cops & Robbers Online from the list under the terms of WP:NOT, since it's clearly a self-styled advertisement, has no Wikipedia page, and isn't in any usable state - in fact, from what I see, they've got nothing at all, not even a working beta. Please feel free to re-add it when the game fulfills the necessary conditions for being on the list, but until then I don't think it belongs here. Kouen 15:57, 17 March 2007 (UTC)

Star Wars Combine

The section on List_of_free_MMORPGs#Star_Wars_Combine really reads like an ad, perhaps cleanup is in order? OSborn 06:47, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

I second that. It's embarrassing.

Absolute Terror

List_of_free_MMORPGs#Absolute_Terror reads a little like an ad. Perhaps changing it up to sound like more of an unbiased summary would do?

Not to mention a couple nutty claims. Immune to firewalls because it's just HTML? No. I've removed the second paragraph altogether. -- General Wesc 19:40, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

Anarchy Online Screen Shot

The screen shot shows subscribers only content, and should replaced with a screen shot taken from within the free client. --711groove 10:45, 11 April 2007 (UTC)

Speed on Blood

Well, this is an advertisement if I ever saw one. Any chance this can be re-written to not sound like one? SirMeh 17:31, 14 April 2007 (UTC)

Goonzu is 3D.

Its not 2D. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Sega31098 (talkcontribs) 21:19, 15 April 2007 (UTC).

Back to basics

I think there's a strong argument for this article being trimmed down to a lightly annotated list of Wikipedia articles, rather than the current inconsistent mishmash of single links, paragraph summaries, file-sizes and screenshots. It should either be reduced to a simple text list as in List of MMORPGs and List of text-based MMORPGs, or an organised table, as in List of multiplayer browser games. We particularly shouldn't be listing MMORPGs which lack Wikipedia articles, as Wikipedia is not a mirror or a repository of links.

What do other editors think? --McGeddon 19:59, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

Please don't. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sega31098 (talkcontribs) 01:07, 28 April 2007
Okay, I'm going to remove every entry that is not referenced with reliable third-party resources (that don't have their own wiki article {as that's another issue} ). This article has become a web directory, which is exactly what a wikipedia article should not be. Any editor that disagrees with a particluar removal can feel free to place it back in if they can provide references and assertion of notability. Marasmusine 17:49, 1 May 2007 (UTC)
I agree with you McGeddon, this article needs reducing to a list - a lot of the information here is redundant with each game's actual article. Also... file size? Who cares? :> The list (possibly a table) should comprise of Name (which will also be it's article link), release date, publisher, genre, brief synopsis. And that's it. The actual external link should be handled from the game's individual article. Marasmusine 18:01, 1 May 2007 (UTC)
Okay, I'll be bold and reduce it to a simple table, opting for a format similar to List of multiplayer browser games rather than the flat list of List of MMORPGs. It'll hopefully provoke more discussion of how this article should best be arranged, if nothing else. --McGeddon 21:20, 1 May 2007 (UTC)
... It's a pretty hard slog, and quite surprising how vague some of the entries are, describing the mechanics rather than the genre or setting. I've got a few entries up at User:McGeddon/Sandbox, and will carry on when I can - feel free to add some more entries, anyone who's reading this, or give feedback on how the table should be arranged. --McGeddon 21:40, 1 May 2007 (UTC)
That's looking good, I will assist when I next get a chance. Marasmusine 07:28, 2 May 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for the contribution. --McGeddon 16:05, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

I removed The Prophets Song from the list. The article link just takes you to an un-related album article, so I deleted it as advertising. DarkSaber2k 12:42, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

It's done! Some entries a bit sketchy because I've taken their synopses and details from this page, rather than following up every single link. And the tables could maybe be formatted a bit more cleanly, if anyone wants to have a go at improving them.

But feel free to put this live at any time - or give convincing arguments why we shouldn't! I'll do it tomorrow if nobody's commented by then. --McGeddon 16:05, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

Alphabetized

Why is Battle Dawn on the bottom of the list? If i'm not mistaken, it starts with a "b", not and "x,y, or z". —Preceding unsigned comment added by Silver Seren (talkcontribs) 01:48, 30 April 2007

Name change

If we are going to include things like social MMOGs and VATSIM, I suggest renaming to List of free MMOGs. Marasmusine 22:16, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

Okay, I've done the move and suggest changing the 'genre' column to read MMORPG, MMOFPS etc. Marasmusine 13:09, 9 May 2007 (UTC)

Volvan Falls?

i joined this new MMORPG called Volvan Falls its free but you need to pay in Ntrinoes to unlock a knight account.--Lerdthenerd 07:23, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

If it's new it might not be notable enough yet. Marasmusine 08:08, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

Granado Espada is new and has been added to the table, should we add Volvan falls?--Lerdthenerd 09:32, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

Not unless it has an article that isn't going be deleted due to notability issues. Granado Espada is on the list because it has an article. I recommend looking at that article and asking yourself if an article like that can be made for Volvan Falls (especially with sources, very important are sources). And if it can, then go ahead and create the article and include it on the list. DarkSaber2k 10:06, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

sorry its volvins fall i spelt it wrong.--Lerdthenerd 16:27, 6 May 2007 (UTC)

I did a google search for volvins fall and nothing came up. (In fact it was a googlewhack {were 'volvins' a real word}) Marasmusine 12:52, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

try newgrounds.com there is a link to volvins fall on the website.--Lerdthenerd 07:02, 9 May 2007 (UTC)

Had a look, there wasn't a link. Searched the site for 'volvan' and 'volvin' with no returns. I think it's safe to say that the game simply isn't notable. Marasmusine 07:44, 12 May 2007 (UTC)

Taking some games out

I'm removing those games that aren't strictly speaking 'massively multiplayer' (using Massively multiplayer online role-playing game as an example definition). For example, Kingdom of Loathing may very well allow many players at once, but there's no interaction between the player's characters (so isn't a persistent world). Legend of the Green Dragon, as it mentions on that articles page, may be multiplayer, but not massively multiplayer. Marasmusine 16:47, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

New Classification

I think it'd be a good idea to provide a new classification for games that require a subscription for 50% or more of their content. Puzzle Pirates, for example, is "free", but requires a paid membership to own most items, all ships, officer titles, etc.

Omechron 16:40, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

I agree that they should be now arranged via payment type; the categories being "Free or paid accounts", "Free; funded with advertising", "Free with paid items", "Free; funded with donations" etc. Marasmusine 17:22, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

Dark Throne?

Um...why has Dark Throne dissapeared from this list and its actual page dissapeared as well. It was there before because I remember it. If i'm not mistaken, that would classify as a text-based or browser-based MMORPG, right?Silver seren 14:13, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Dark Throne (2nd nomination). DarkSaber2k 14:28, 18 May 2007 (UTC)
Hmm...so does that mean that once more notification is added to it, maybe in a year or two, it will be added back?Silver seren 14:34, 18 May 2007 (UTC)
Well, I can't speak for will be added back, but if actual reliable sources turn up for it in the future, and someone works these sources into an article, it'll probably do better than this one. DarkSaber2k 14:42, 18 May 2007 (UTC)
Okay, because its still a big site that needs a place in wikipedia. Hopefully it does some charities or something soon. XPSilver seren 14:49, 18 May 2007 (UTC)
Whether or not the site needs (in their opinion at least) a wiki article doesn't come into it. The article needs to be notable within web criteria, and have reliable independent third-party sources so those claims can be verified. DarkSaber2k 14:54, 18 May 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, yeah, I know. ^_^Silver seren 15:10, 18 May 2007 (UTC)
Sorry, habit! Had to say that to so many different people recently with regards to articles on web games. DarkSaber2k 15:11, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

dungeon runner from NCsoft is also another addition. the release date is 5/2007. it's free to download/play with pay membership to enjoy added functions.

-- about dungeon runner, i have just tried it and it is not free, you have to buy an NCsoft 'master account' before you can play.
it's free i played you don't have to buy a master account jus setup a account then go to buy a game(you're not buying it). then buy it even says it on Dungeon runner site "Free to play" duh!I played even tho i have guild wars account.--Hitamaru 19:54, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
I just read the terms of service, it is indeed free. It is just mainly focused on the subscribed portion, while there is still a free portion available.Silver seren 20:32, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

Dungeon Runners has added ad-support so all content is now available to all players. They still offer an optional monthly subscription so I'm not sure if DR should stay in "Optional paid subscriptions" or be moved to "Free play with advertising".

Non-subscribers now have:

  • a percent chance of any rare equipment drops being equippable by non-subscribers
  • access to the item storage bank

Subscribers have:

  • unrestricted access to all items including higher quality potions
  • three times as much bank space
  • queue priority if servers are ever full
  • no ads

The only content that non-subscribers don't have is the better quality potions. Free accounts still have stackable potions but they're less powerful than the members-only versions.

Minor disclaimer: I am not affiliated with Dungeon Runners except as a player/addict. --Kitsunegami (talk) 01:45, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

Different tables

I've reorganized the "3D / 2D games" tables into by-payment-type tables (free play / advertising / optional paid accounts), since it seems more appropriate to the subject. MarašmusïneTalk 09:04, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SubSpace_%28computer_game%29 I think that should be added, its a freeware mmog, i would do it myself but i don't have the time or the experience with page edits, i would be much grateful if someone else could 22:05, 11 September 2007 (UTC) Tresmius

Fiesta, Metin 2, Mana World, Ragnarok (free servers), & Well of Souls?

Why aren't Fiesta, Metin 2, Mana World, Ragnarok (free servers), & Well of Souls listed here? They all fall in at least one subcategory here. --Merrick79 00:58, 15 September 2007 (UTC)

Are they notable? Can they be verified independently?. If so, do they have Wikipedia articles? Marasmusine 17:28, 15 September 2007 (UTC)

I feel that at least Fiesta, and Ragnarok should be added to the list. In my opinion, they are both notable and can be verified independently. They also have Wikipedia articles. How do you feel about those two specifically? --Merrick79 18:03, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

Fiesta (MMORPG) has an article, is an MMOG and is in open beta. There is an argument against putting betas in this list, but feel free to put it in. The article doesn't assert the game's notability, however, so could be subject to deletion. Will tag it for now.
Ragnarok Online, horrible article, no independent references, etc, but whilst it's here, stick it in the list under microtransactions (per what it says for the Kafra Shop) Marasmusine 06:42, 17 September 2007 (UTC)

Mu Online

Mu Online (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mu_Online) should be added under "Optional paid subscriptions", should it not? --Merrick79 17:59, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

Stick it in :> Again, another article without assertion of notability :/ I've a feeling that most of these Korean games will have plenty of references from Korean gaming magazines etc, but not much from English sources. By the way, you can link to the articles using double-square-brackets: [[Mu Online]] makes Mu Online, for example. Marasmusine 06:42, 17 September 2007 (UTC)

Marasmusine, you're a a professional in comparison to me. I don't know html, and if I mess around with the article to add new games, I'm certain I'll dribble it up. Would you be kind and add the ones you find agreeable to be on this list? --Merrick79 23:20, 17 September 2007 (UTC)

Yohoho! Puzzle Pirates

The description of Y!PP's system needs to be expanded but I don't know how to explain it in a way that is concise enough. Three Rings basically has two systems in place. One is a subscription system with much of the content locked to non-subscribers. The other is a dual currency system, where you can buy (with real money) or trade (with the standard in-game money, called pieces of eight) for the second type of currency (called doubloons, which isn't used on the subscription servers). On doubloon oceans (servers) almost everything requires both pieces of eight and doubloons, but since doubloons can be freely traded for pieces of eight you can, in essence, play the game with all of the features absolutely free. Anyone think they can condense that and add it to the article? Lando242 05:36, 30 September 2007 (UTC)

Ask this question in the proper discussion topic. Thanks :) ((Unlogged Aveyond007))
Fixed. You could have just moved it yourself by deleting two of the = instead of writing a post asking me to do it. Lando242 18:57, 13 October 2007 (UTC)

Onrpg.com - The FREE MMORPG website should be added

Onrpg.com is the number one place for free mmorpgs so I believe it should be added to the list of links. It has free, open beta, closed beta and a bunch of other free mmos. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Gabez123 (talkcontribs) 00:58, 18 October 2007 (UTC)

From what I understand it's a set of links, right? This is a list of free MMOGs, not free MMOG sites. OSbornarfcontributionatoration 04:58, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
You misunderstood, OSborn, Gabez didn't want it listed as a game, but as a reference. I added it to the external links section. --Marshmello 21:28, 20 October 2007 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Marshmello (talkcontribs)
I've removed it; there's nothing particularly notable about that website and would only encourage a longer list of external links to gaming websites. Wikipedia is not an external link directory; please also see WP:EL. References for individual games should be placed on their respective articles. Marasmusine 07:27, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

Daimonin

Does anyone think I should write up an article on Daimonin, then add it to this list? I'm asking here to check if there's any particular reason why an article on this game doesn't exist. I'm asking on this page because I can't figure out where else to ask. I'm sure I can dig up something about it, if I tried. Thanks everyone! Cam.turn (talk) 03:26, 20 November 2007 (UTC)

Stendhal

So, where is Stendhal? Artemis3 (talk) 08:15, 18 December 2007 (UTC)

GNU/Linux with Wine

What is this? I don't think that should belong in the table, because it is both misleading and inaccurate. First, Wine not only runs with gnu/linux. Second, wine is in constant development and many windows programs that didn't work before do work now; and some even stop working after they add features, etc. So it is pointless to keep track of them here, but you can always help http://appdb.winehq.org Artemis3 (talk) 19:44, 18 December 2007 (UTC)

Do you mean in reference to Gekkeiju Online? (As it appears to be the only place Wine is mentioned) Marasmusine (talk) 20:22, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
Yes. Artemis3 (talk) 04:30, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
Okay, I've removed it. I think emulation methods should only be noted here if the game developers themselves specify it. Marasmusine (talk) 10:14, 19 December 2007 (UTC)

browser-based

can anyone please indicate which of these, if any, are browser-based? thanks. --Steve, Sm8900 (talk) 13:54, 31 December 2007 (UTC)

The browser-based games are the ones that say "browser-based" in the "Required OS" column. Marasmusine (talk) 15:31, 31 December 2007 (UTC)
oh, ok. missed that. thanks. --Steve, Sm8900 (talk) 15:34, 31 December 2007 (UTC)

newer IGG Games

Angels Online and Wonderland Online should be added to the list.

for future editing. Wonderland is about to enter closed beta by the end of the month (and is entering user-based alpha testing right now.) Angels Online is currently in Open Beta. --99.154.3.248 (talk) 01:21, 19 March 2008 (UTC)

They don't seem particularly notable. Coverage seems to be limited to press releases ([2] for example.) Do you know of any reviews or similar? Marasmusine (talk) 07:46, 19 March 2008 (UTC)

Last Chaos

doesn't Last Chaos belong on the list?Mike1921 (talk) 16:49, 20 April 2008 (UTC)

Yes, but ideally it should have it's own article before being added here, otherwise it risks removal due to WP:Notability. EABoz (talk) 18:08, 20 April 2008 (UTC)

Dear Editors,

May I mention to put (link removed) link to the external links category, since it is one of the most popular free mmorpg toplist on the net.

Thanks, Admin —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ggot (talkcontribs) 13:30, 25 May 2008 (UTC)

Sorry, no, that would be against our WP:External links and WP:LINKSPAM guidelines. Marasmusine (talk) 13:34, 25 May 2008 (UTC)

OZ

Didn't see this game in the list. It's a free MMORPG. Fishing game. the website is ozongameport.com They also have 2 other free MMORPG's that are the typical kill monster types. Deicide, and Thang Online. They're all free but you can use cash to get rare items. I've played Oz for 3 years and never spent any money on it. Crass3 (talk) 19:43, 1 September 2008 (UTC)

Are any of them notable? If they are, you might want to consider creating an article for them and adding a link here. Wyatt Riot (talk) 20:09, 1 September 2008 (UTC)

Shouldn't the article be split up into eg free MMORPG, free sports games, free shooters, free browsergames, ... a {{See| tag can be added above each column which mark the best games of the genre, all other entries can be moved to the approriate other article —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.246.131.229 (talk) 12:30, 26 March 2009 (UTC)

Also, I was thinking; shouldn't the sys reqs be mentioned; allot of these games are very good but not everyone can play them; a sys req column allows easier/better picking of the games one can run

btw americas army, Kuma\War, ... see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_free_first-person_shooters

Atlantica, World of Kung Fu, Tales of Pirates, Voyage Century, ... ZX Online, Cabal Online, RAN Online

PS: My edit in which I describe:

Corum Online Dream of Mirror Online Fly For Fun Galaxy Online Lords of Evil Saga Online Godswar Online keeps getting deleted, please don't remove again. It makes article more complete and according to fileplanet, there some of the top free mmog s available, so there not just 'any' mmogs. Also, there from some of the top mmogs producers (internet gaming gateway and aeria games) Finally as a last reason, the games are graphicly very nice and still playable with low system specs (800mhz-1.2ghz!, 32-64mb geforce 2)

81.246.168.171 (talk) 12:23, 27 March 2009 (UTC)

If they're notable, they should have articles on Wikipedia, which would also make them appropriate for this article. Wyatt Riot (talk) 18:42, 27 March 2009 (UTC)

Games that are not up

Games like BZFlag and Armagetron are not on there, though they are massively played Multiplayer Online Games. Could someone put them up? --67.240.35.127 (talk) 12:56, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

'Massively played' and 'massively multiplayer' aren't the same thing - the latter refers to upwards of fifty or a hundred people playing simultaneously on a single game server. -Seventh Holy Scripture (talk) 23:52, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

PlaneShift is 3D not 2D (isometric)

Foreign-based translated games

I cannot think of any others, but I know of one game for sure that should be on this list. Florensia is originally in Chinese, but has been translated (for the most part) to English. It is would fall under the Free to play with optional upgrades in-game. No members-only benefits. http://en.florensia-online.com/ —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rj.amdphreak (talkcontribs) 06:55, 4 March 2010 (UTC)

Lost Saga

Lost Saga is free to play with some stuff that you have to buy with purchased coins (Astros) that can also be found rarely without paying anything. It's technically an RPG-like fighting game, but this is just for MMOs, not just MMORPGS, so could someone add it? I'm really bad at editing charts in Wikipedia without messing up the code. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.87.26.34 (talk) 05:36, 5 July 2010 (UTC)

Oz World Global

For some strange reason, me and several others have tried to add this free MMORPG to the list, but they keep deleting it saying the game doesn't exist. It's a social/fishing game, similar to Gaia I believe. Totally free, 3D. You can purchase items with cash but I've never paid them one cent. I tried to contact them and give them the address to show them that it actually exists. How do you contact them anyway? The address is http://oz.ongameport.com/

If someone could help me get them to accept that this game belongs on the list that would be greatly appreciated

Crass33 (talk) 23:51, 15 September 2010 (UTC)

It's not that we don't think the game exists, it's more that we don't believe it meets our notability requirements. To be linked from this article, you'll either need to include a reference from a reliable, third-party source (see the WikiProject Video games list of sources for appropriate sources) or create the article first and then add the link here. However, I've done a search of reliable sources for "oz world global" and I didn't get any results, but I didn't spend a lot of time on it. If you can find sources, please include them here and we can see if adding a link would be appropriate. Wyatt Riot (talk) 04:06, 16 September 2010 (UTC)

Fiesta Online category

Fiesta Online is currently listed under non-profit games. I haven't played it personally, but I'm pretty sure it has micro-transactions. Could someone confirm? Elcalen (talk) 20:10, 13 October 2010 (UTC)

Unification Wars

at the bottom of the list this game is discussed. I changed the text from a very onesided statement of "One of the best games online today" to "An online game". as I know little else about this game I at the moment I just put a simple objective statement to replace the biased statement. please feel free to add to this if you know more about this game.

maid marian

does that count as a MMORPG? Its sometimes refered to as a chatroom....

This article was nominated for deletion on 1 November 2006. The result of the discussion was no consensus.

Not a real Game!

Renaissance War is not a active game! Plus they do not even have an content or screen shots displayed on thier website, which is only two pages... I am removing it from the article. Deleted the following:

Renaissance War

Renaissance War (RW) is a Java based 3-D MMORPG. You can create your own character and search a vast online world where you can fight, do quests, improve skills, meet new people, trading and more. Currently Java Xperts is planning to include these skills at release; Mining, Smithing, Woodcutting, Hunting, Range, Fishing, Cooking, and Magic. This MMORPG is browser based, which means no downloads are required. Currently no images have been released as the game is under development.

OGame

I added OGame, a browser-based, text-based space game.

Will someone please add "Myth War Online" & "Dofus" to the 2D list? ^_^

Goonzu is 3D.

Its not even 2D. -Sega31098

Maple Story Fix

Changed description of maple story to "2D platformer mixed with action RPG elements" to better describe gameplay and remove bias. Originally read "Korean noob game".

Secret of the Solstice

I think i should write up an article on this new MMORPG game i started to play. It's made by the same company as Fiesta and is reliatively like it as well. Yes, it's open beta, but it's still free and i think that should be added to this list. The Website is: Thanks. ((User:RenaisGuard|RenaisGuard)) 11:35, 11 December 2007 (GMT-5)

World of Warcraft?

Why is WoW listed in the Free w/ Optional Subscription? There's no option to it. You MUST have a subscription to play. It shouldn't be on the free list at all. TsaraV (talk) 12:22, 21 December 2007 (UTC)

An anonymous user added it very recently. Have removed it, thanks. Marasmusine (talk) 20:07, 21 December 2007 (UTC)
